rainmac - love the door hangers................I keep wanting to have a go but I just know its going to come out looking so like something I've made myself...............lol
Can you give idiot proof instructions on how you did those ?
Siren - love the sock monkey..............thats another thing I really ought to have a go at...........
mary, the door hangers are so, so easy to make - if I can do it...
All you need: a plain wooden door hanger (can get these from eBay, Hobbycraft and lots of other places I'm sure), some patterned paper, stickers or other lovely things to decorate hanger, glue/double sided tape, scissors, craft knife.
So, how I have made them: glue/ use double sided tape all over one side of door hanger; turn upside down and stick onto reverse of your sheet of paper. Cut around the hanger with a craft knife and cut out hole. Repeat this for the other side and decorate. Told you it was easy!!!
For my first attempt I drew around the hanger and tried to cut out the paper to fit but it looked rubbish, much better to cut around once stuck to hanger. Meant to also say, I have used double sided tape for most as I get in such a mess with glue but I use so much tape to make sure every corner is going to stick properly I think I am going to use glue for the rest (yep got more to make!) as I'm sure it will be much cheaper.
Hope that helps:wave: If you want the rainbow, you've got to put up with the rain :wave:0 -

melissa - love the box..........it's beautiful. Well, I bought some paper from our craft shop today so tomorrow (maybe ?) I'll have a go at covering one of the shoe boxes I seem to be accumulating.................lol
rainmac - thanks for the instructions.............what with covering boxes and having a go at door hangers, not to mention a thousand and one other things I want to try I might as well put the hoover in the cupboard under the stairs and say farewell to it for a few months................lolMary

The sock monkey doesn't have a name yet but I normally make up a name and personality for the monkey to match whoever gets it e.g. I made one for my brother which was gaming mad, it was named after a character from his favourite game and it had square buttons for eyes to symbolise square eyes from staring at a screen for too long!. I then write the info on a luggage tag and pin it to the monkey's ear.
Melissa - that box is beautiful, I'm dead jealous don't think I could make something so good, although I'm going to try the box of cards thing too. Saving hard for a brighter future!:beer:0 -
Thanks for all your nice comments about my card box! It was really easy to do in the end. I've been looking at the one I bought today, and even though its smaller I think its going to be a lot harder to cover. It has a drawer that comes out, I think I may have to modify this one too to make the papers fit. I meant to mention before that I had an idea for the envelopes. I was going to tie a ribbon around them to make them look pretty, but I've got a few ends from the paper that I used so I was just going to wrap a thinnish piece around the envelopes instead and secure that so that everything matches. That way I don't have to use any of my ribbon (I only have a little bit).0

melissa - got me thinking now..........I've got a couple of little boxes upstairs that used to have notelets in..........they'd be perfect for a gift of notelets I could make and decorate the box to tone in.
What would be the best glue to use for sticking my paper onto my shoe box ? I've got pva - would that be ok ?
If I were using wallpaper I'd mix up some wallpaper paste.............did that before on another box I covered years back but not sure it would work right with scrapbook paperMary

I've done some lovely cards first time ever! Gosh I'm so excited! :rotfl::xmassmile Looking forward to December:xmassmile0 -
I am LOVING all these ideas. Card box is definitely do-able, as are hangers, whether they would look as good as yours is seriously in doubt though! As for the sock monkey, I totally love him, I would totally love a gift that is so personalised that someone made just for me! How on earth do you do it? Is it difficult? I can't sew for toffee (what does that phrase mean?)
I had an idea with the supercook sprinkles being on offer that I could get some sundae glasses and long spoons and make them a deluxe ice cream set... Not sure what else to include though, maybe some home made bikkies to dip or chocolate straws... Any ideas welcomeGod is good, all the time

How on earth did you make the sock monkey? He's gorgeous, my daughter would love one, could do one for her stocking!
Also thinking of a door hanger for my sons, they're going to be sharing a room next year so could do one for then. They want a football themed room so that should be quite easy to do.Slightly worn out mum to 3 (DS1 May 03, DS2 Feb 05, DD1 Feb 08). When i grow up i think i'll become a UN Peace keeper....0
