Hi guys, I have read most of this thread now ... phew!
This is the first year I have tried being crafty for christmas, and so far almost all of my family are receiving hampers with various bought/reused/homemade bits in them. I have made to date, little pots of gold, snowman soup, reindeer / snowman poop, perfect men (gingerbread men), jar of homemade peanut brittle, several chocolate slabs, a homemade calendar, several christmas and birthday cards.
I am well chuffed with myself, as I am crap at cooking and have loads of lovely things that I hope will mean more to people as they are homemade and took thought and effort, not just grabbed off the shelf at the last minute.
Thanks for your ideas you are all brill. x

  • here is a table decoration my sister had the idea of but sent my way. it's very simple to do, but not suitable for kids as you need either hot glue gun or uhu/superglue.

circle of card, piece of tinsel to fit round edge of card, 6/8 (or so) pine cones - some spray painted if wanted. berries or leaves etc and a candle.

glue tinsel to card, glue pine cones round the edge in a circle shape, leaving a gap in the middle for candle. intertwine the berries around the pine cones and glue the candle in place.

DSCF2478.jpg the credit card is an optional extra - but saves you holding the candle in place!

  • I am doing snowman soup cones, thank you to the MSE forum for this fabulous idea.
I am a keen photoshopper and I've been doing digital painting on photoshop for a while, so I'm doing some digital art of people I know and framing them and giving them out as Xmas presents.
I've also made themed hampers for the parents and inlaws. My mum and MIL are having pamper hampers, my dad has a brain training hamper (with memory testing cards, old fashioned wooden puzzels, word searches, sudokus and some whiskey and Magners), I'm doing the FIL a gardening hamper.

That is all for now, but I'm sure I'll find some other great ideas from reading this thread!

  • Made some snowman soup tonight for a friend, but decided to put it in a jar instead. This one is the prototype might fiddle about a bit and make a few different ones.

I used the large sized douwe egbert coffee jar, instant hot choc, white and milk choc chips and mini marshmallows.

    Photo-0031-2-1.jpg

the hot choc ws (54p), choc chips (38p) and (42p )and marshmallows 90p but only used 1/3 of bag (30p). Canes were 89p for 18 in quality save, so bout 20p for the 4 i used.

Used a circle of smart price wrap (16p for roll) to cover top of jar, used matching smart price gift label (40p for 20)

    Photo-0033-1.jpg

I pt the marshmallows in a bag and added a closer of the matching gift wrap then put all together in smart price gift bag from same design (19p)

All told my jar of snowman soup cost about £2.06 including the gift bag. Just have a ribbon and poem label to put on and it is finished.:D
    Photo-0032-1-1.jpg

Forgot to add - between the layers i used the cellophane circles that I got from lakeland for making quarter pound burgers :)
    Reduce,re-use, recycle.

  • Hi just to feed back on our xmas fayre. We had a table with flannel cakes, slipper socks in muffin cases, reindeer flannel, reindeer oats, flannel logs, and snowman soup. The best seller was the snowman soup.:T :D Sadly the flannel cakes were not the hit I expected:confused: . We did okish made enough to cover costs and pay for all the stock we have left. The Fayre wasn't as well attended as expected. So we broke even. Now need to sell the rest:eek: Mariae.

Home Bargains has a great section of puzzles - wooden, metal and suduko type too. Prices are great :D

Love your idea of digital art to frame, lovely original gifts!

stick em on ebay, or try and get a stall at another xmas fare - there is 1 or 2 every weekend from next week all within 10mins walking distance, cubs n scouts, brownies, the sheltered eldery flats (2 lots), the 4 schools, local community center.
