Well I'd like to say thanks to everyone for their ideas. I've gone through this whole thread during this week and you've given me so much inspiration and enthusiasm for creating lots of presents (although I realise I've left it very late compared to you lot!)

My first attempt will get an outing tonight, not Christmas but a flat warming hamper made almost entirely of things scavenged from round the house, consisting of wine, glasses, chocolates (repackaged prettily) and scented candles in a gift basket. If that is received well I may have the confidence to try more hamper ideas for Christmas presents and these will involve much more homemade stuff.

    Thanks again all!

I'm not doing much today Maria. I need some brown flannels to do my reindeer as I went to Wilko on Wednesday and they didn't have any, so thats on hold.
Should really be working on my sisters Christmas present cross stitch. Its a tiger and is really time consuming, which isn't good as I have my cards to cross stitch as well as a couple of other gifts!

Glad we could all help ASC, nice to see some people appreciate our chatting hehe
The hamper sounds nice, I bet the recipient will love it and its even better that you created it with things around your house!
Don't worry about starting things late, most of us here still have ideas from here that we want to do, or half made things sat on the table staring at us begging to be finished. :p

oh crikey don't remind me. Had the great idea last night to make a pom pom wreath. Haven't made pom pom since i was at school and 'my god' i forgot how time consuming it was, my poor fingers, i am gonna suffer with arthritis when i'm older.

Got to finish it though cause nagged hubby to get me 4 lots of wool from work

Tip for you, cut the hanger a bit smaller, then instead of having a full size wreath that takes waaaay too many sweets to fill (and which will probably never be eaten) you have a smaller one that doesn't cost as much to make as it would to buy and it looks just as effective
  • Dunelm and Tesco both had brown flannels as did primark. After I bought mine I saw quite a few on this weeks travels.

ASC sounds you have the making of a very thoughtful hamper and good idea to put in things you don`t need. I have things that have never seen the light of day, some too good for pressies ( very expensive and the rest not good enough stuff I hope to bootsale).

I like hearing about other people makes/likes it spurs me on, it makes MSE more appealing to me.

Thanks for that tip bravobeastie! Sounds like a plan to me hehe. I'm hoping to get the sweeties for it this week but make it closer to Christmas as hopefully most of my other bit will be done and so I will still have this to keep me occupied hehe.

Only thing that confuses me with it is the half knot full knot thing. So when tying the string to the sweetie do you only do the first step when tying your shoes and then when tying it to the wire do the whole thing you would when tying your shoes? hope that made sense!
