    Hi shaz...

Im knitting little stockings to hang on the tree...and thought when I started making them that they would be nice pegged on a ribbon as an advent calender... I can pass on the pattern if anyone is interested

pinkladymel - love the Christmas scrapbook idea..............think I might do one for next year on how Christmas has been celebrated through the years, what presents children used to have and so on. Be a good project for me to start on come January.......

shaz - love the cuddly toy..............so cute. Haven't looked at the blog yet as only just got in from a meeting. Seems like its worth a look though.

My aunt did somewthing really similar for me last Christmas (yes... I am 23 and I still get an Advent calender...). She made 24 tiny stockings and little bobble hats and sent them in the post along with a length of plaited wool to act as a washing line. She gave me 24 tiny wooden pegs (I've seen these in craft shops and German Christmas markets) to hang the socks on the line. The socks and hats were all numbered 1 - 24. She'd even wrapped me up some tiny treats to put inside the socks. On some days there were nuts, on other days lovely little beads to make myself a bracelet with at the end of advent, other days a tiny Christmas decoration, etc, etc. She said she'd found it really fun and challenging looking for little treats that would fit inside the socks (especially as I was vegan at the time and couldn't eat most chocolate and sweets).

I think she also sells these at craft fairs, she says they were really popular, and she also sells little kits so that people can make them themselves.

When me and my brothers were little we had another advent calender that she'd made for us (I think as a Christmas present for my eldest brothers first Christmas). It was a piece of felt with some material on the back and then she'd sewn on 24 envelope type pockets with more felt. At the bottom of each pocket was a little holder and inside each pocket would be a little card (that she'd cut out of old Christmas cards) that we put into the holder and a little treat (usually a chocolate coin, although sometimes my mum just put foil wrapped dried fruit and nut parcels to be healthy). At the very top of the calender was a bigger 'pocket' which had a Father Christmas that she'd sewn who had a sack with a little present for all of us that we'd get on Christmas Eve. Father Christmas was behind two pieces of felt which were tied together with ribbon which when you pulled revealed a Cristmas Tree and Father Christmas popped out and his scak fell revealing our presents! I absolutely adored it and it was a great tradition each year!

Another idea would be to collect mathboxes which you could stick together and cover in festive coloured paper. You could paint numbers on each drawer and have a tiny treat inside each one. You could use butterfly pins as a tiny handfle for the drawers.

Pinkladymel - love your scrapbook. The red ribbons at the side look really xmasy and remind me of poinsettas.
Bigmummaf - I often watch the crafting shows on tv - create and craft and qvc, to get ideas and see what new products are out. I hardly ever buy from them though. I think the postage they charge is disgusting, and a lot higher than online shops. Also often I don't think their deals are that good, sometimes you might find something that's a bargain, but most times I think their stuff is overpriced - especially qvc.
I will try to upload some pictures later of stuff I have made, sorry I have been lazy lately, but it seems to take me ages to upload the pics.

As promised I am going to bore you all now with some pics of stuff that I altered a few weeks ago. They were all going to be for my Mum, but I think they are a little too bright. Plus I have just got a new range from K and co which is much more classy and muted, so I am going to use that instead for Mum. I think these bits will go to my sister for xmas, I don't know whether she'll like them, but tough. I am doing her a pink hamper so these will match. They are decorated using the "belle" k and co range.
This is how the book started out, I thought I'd post a pic of it in case anyone wanted to get one. Its from Asda and it only cost a pound, its in the section with the kids school stationery. It has tabs inside, and loads of index card things. They sell it in black, pink, and turquoise:IMG0033A.jpg
It was really easy to decorate, I just decorated the outside, and then stuck matching paper on the tabs inside:IMG0029A-1.jpg,
    here's the inside:IMG0030A-1.jpg
I covered a notebook, also from asda, it cost 20p and its a shopping list pad:
    IMG0032A-1.jpg
and here's a little photo frame, I think it cost 60p from hobbycraft:IMG0031A-1.jpg
Sorry the photos are so bad, the stuff doesn't look that bad honest!

melissa - they all look lovely............were they really that easy ? I was going to have a go at covering some notebooks for my grandchildren......thought I'd do a 'little black book' for teenage grandson.....if I can get a cheap address book for that and suitable paper.
