ok to answer my own question concerning how to get two skyplus boxes each for £49 (£98 TOTAL) I have figured it out. Iam going to cancel my sky account and the get it in my parents name - giving me One skyplus mith multiroom at £49 with 3 months subscription half price and a new digibox as well as a new skyplus box. Then a few days after getting my new customer number I will sign up for the existing customer offer for skyplus with multiroom for £49. Means I get 2 new skyplus boxes for the house - and a new digibox to sell on ebay along with my old one and the old minidish plus 3 months subscription half price plus £30 cashback for signing up as a new sky customer through quidco :j :j :j

Firstly I apologise if this message is mis placed. I have scanned the site and consider this the most appropriate place. However if I am wrong please forgive me.
Over one year ago I took Telewest as my ISP, phone and t.v.provider.

I pay £10.50 for telephone line rental per month. Plus £15.00 for talk unlimited. Plus £1.50 call bar for mobil numbers.
I pay £5.50 for starter t.v. package which gives us sky one plus usual teresteral channels and the rubbish that no one ever watches.
I pay £25.00 per month for broadband connection. Total £57.50 per month min.

I have been feeling I should look to change as others seem to offer better/more attractive packages.

I called telewest to ask if they were intending to make their service more attractive and was informed on the free speed upgrage for internet connection, which appears to be a move in the right direction. They also informed me regarding their equivalent to sky plus. I have now received the paperwork on this to find that firstly it is only free if I subscribed to their top tv package, for others it will be available on a monthly subscription. Furthermore this 'teleport tv ' is as far removed from sky plus as it only offers a selection of programmes available.

In short I have read with interest the posts on sky plus offer for new customers and wonder if I should take that. I am a little confused as to exactly what that will need to cost me and wonder how easy it is to close the tv part of the telewest service.
Furthermore should I then also consider moving the phone side of things as well, but I have teenage children and asking them to prefix certain munbers at certain times of days would be a nightmare.

Please I realise this is a bit long and drawn out but I would welcome all advice, I just don't know what to do for the best. Thank you

How? Rang them last night asking for some deal other than the £45 + multiroom and they wouldn't have it. Would only offer £199 plus £60 installation. Going to ring up tonight threatening to cancel on the grounds of poor customer service and see where that gets me.

  • I've just rung about sky+. Like I said, there's no need for us to have multiroom and we haven't got the extra tv anyway to watch it.
Spent nearly an hour trying to get through but was told there's no way i can get sky+ without multiroom for £49. Threatened to cancel etc but they were having none of it. Eventually spoke to someone in cancellations who's managed to do it for £99 without multiroom and coming next wednesday

i spent 29 mins and basically i phoned cancellations direct didnt go through sky +, i thought that would be to obvious... even tho i am coming off my 3 months half price.. i thought id give it a try

the guy basically asked why i was cancelling i said well my equipment is naff, and that i was out of my 12 month contract and wasnt willing to pay for an engineer visit etc etc.. he said he would get an engineer to check it for free.. i wasn't having that so told him nah, the box is old anyway i think i have had enough.. waiting for him to mention sky + which he didn't so i mentioned how sky+ is the only thing that would keep me at sky.. basically after allot of back and forth compromising.. i managed to get it for £65 with no multiroom...

just play on it..let him think you are going to cancel.. pretty sure he gets some browny points for keeping you on, so they try their best.just make sure you have got a convincing excuse to tell them.. in my case, equipement etc...

this 40 hour box...you say it's the standard one?

i thought it was 20 hour that was standard.. the guy told me i would have the new one with 40 hour recording?

im not clued up on this so can anyone shed some light?

no 40 hours is the standard one - the new more expensive one is the SKy plus 160 which has up to 80 hours recording time but costs £299 or £199 if you get it on offer
