Sorry but that's absolute twaddle! :rotfl:
There was a communication to all stores (by HO at Cheshunt I think) but it was in June 2007 and it stated the policy that we know and love. That is that you do NOT have to buy the products as long as you only use one of each product coupon and it is in date (and not with a Tesco logo and not any other Supermarket specific).
Trouble is many stores didn't know about it as it was in a normal CS Daily Update which they often don't read. Also CS updates are not sent to Dundee Call Centre so they never saw it either. And some stores know about the Update but still don't allow coupons at all or have their own version of the policy, due to previous abuse.
That's why many Tesco staff do not know what they should be doing and Dundee are not much help on the subject either!
Here. Here Coupon Mad. :T :T Someone who knows exactly what they are talking about and knows their stuff (unlike Ten98 who is probably a Tesco plant). The actual date the memo went to Host was 3 June 2007.
Have no problems at all with local T's. They know the policy, they know me, and I don't abuse it. It's a shame that we have scaremongers on here who seem to enjoy the anguish it can cause some by stating fiction instead of fact.0 -
Thanks Coupon Mad thats very helpful.

Thanks, I really hate it when a newbie starts stirring things with an absolutely made-up load of rubbish post. Why do people do it?
You are just like me, my local 2 Tesco stores know me very well and know I don't use more than one identical moc (unless I buy the product of course). I am in there every day and most cashiers love to see how low I can get the total. The Supervisors & Till manager in the smaller store greet me with a smile and compare notes with me sometimes about which magazines/papers to buy that day. They use coupons too now they have seen me do it with much success.
BTW, if anyone thinks that some of us are 'lucky' to have local stores being OK as regards coupons, it's not as simple as that for me (and maybe not for hnscott either).
I spent many a morning stood at the CS desk last year, or being singled out by clueless Supervisors, waiting to discuss the coupon policy with a Manager. I did so without apology (but politely) - in 3 local stores - and finally they checked out what I was saying, read the Host message and allowed coupons as per the policy from then onwards.
I knew about the Update from this forum and others so the info was out there in the public domain, there was nothing for me to be worried about except if my stores had both said a final 'no' for some reason. I had nothing to lose by asking and happily they didn't say 'no'.
I tend to use 2 out of the 3 stores as the other one is a Metro which has imposed its own 'maximum of a third of the bill' limit. Fair play to them for looking into the policy and coming up with a fair limit for them (although it meant they lost me as a customer but I don't expect they miss me, lol!).PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

The Tesco Policy that is on the front page of the Money Off Coupons Policy is an updated one that I was given in July 2008 that had just been sent out to all branches.

Bought 3 NOTW's today at Tesco and tore out 1 x £5 coupon to use straight away, as I knew I would be spending over £30(£38 as it turned out to be) I also had several internet coupons and several manufacturers( including 1 Mon Guardian, 1 Sun Guardian and 1 Sat Guardian) plus the lovely book of coupons ( £50 worth in total) sent to me by Mr T along with my latest vouchers. I bought 3 books totalling £17( 1 down from £20 to £10 and 2 x £3.78 on offer for £7 ) there was £3 moc in Mr T's book of vouchers that I could use against those , plus a moc from Mr T's book of vouchers for 40p of Fresh Orange Juice.I also had a till spit for points and a till spit for 40p...armed with all these bits of paper I approached the self-scan till. I was asked if I needed any assistance, which I accepted. All the coupons were taken from me by the SA who duly 'did her swipey thing' with her security thingy whenever the till beeped..."my word you've done well" she said...my total to pay was just over £20.I asked why I had been given allsorts of misleading info of late and told her about my visit yesterday when I heard the SA telling an old lady in front of me that she would not take the 50p moc from her as she hadn't bought the product and that I had intervened and told her she was incorrect, she did not argue ,just apologised and sent the old lady to customer services to claim her 50p. I then asked her to scan £30 of my shopping and then to stop and I would pay and use 1 x £3 NOTW and then do the rest and I would use another...plus lots and lots of other coupons...My first shop was £31 which I got for £21 using 1 x £3 plus various other coupons( I had not bought any of the products) then the rest was put through, another £3 NOTW plus lots more coupons...total of coupons was £19.10....the SA was so chatty all through the transactions telling me she was usually on the shop floor and was glad I had told her about coupon use. What I do not understand is why, when she had declined 1 from someone else , she took my word for it and took all my coupons happily.Very strange. So as I was saying , I put this to the SA at self-scan today....and I was told that there was no problem at all with customers using coupons as long as they were legit ( internet or manufacturers), it was the staff that were being watched very carefully.Someone had been caught using photocopies and had been found to have been selling them. This had meant a clampdown on certain coupons, from now on they would not take any that were for Airwick, Mitchum or any from newspapers that were for money off magazines or books, or any that the management had seen advertised on auction sites. Thought I would share the info with you, the more we know the better...every little helps! Still got 2 x £5 for my weekly shop next Friday...yes Mr T , every little does help , a lot.Have made this detailed post in order to cover a few questions that are being asked by some people who are a little apprenhensive about using coupons and hope this helps give them confidence....over £36 saved this weekend for me..go for it!!0

Thanks, that's the same as the details in the CS Update sent by Host to all stores in June 2007 so nothing has changed (except in some individual stores). Here's the link you are talking about, to the first page of the policies/printables (no chat) sticky thread in case anyone needs the policy:

I always tell them there coupon policy - in fact, in my opinion, they have no clue what it is. Everytime ive been in got a differant cs they either don know and ask or tell me sometrhing stupid (this is also the case when they ask someone).
The policies i have heard in space three weeks are:
1. we dont take internet coupons
2. we only take 10 coupons
3. we only take one each coupon (which i think is correct)
4. we take 33%
5. we take 25%
6. we dont take them unless u buy the product
7. we take 20%
I have told them they do take net coupons, they take one each and agreed on a middle ground of 25%, although this can vary.....
ps... the cs asked me where to get the coupons from cos she had piece paper with some tv and discounts she could get an wanted another £30 off to take a £200 tv down to £100!SIMPLES!0 -

Not sure where you got this from but it's simply not the case. That was the policy pre-June 2006. Perhaps someone's sent it out in a Daily Update by mistake?
I do work at Tesco head office but I'm not a "plant" as you put it, I just come here to read the forums. I see a lot of people talking nonsense a lot of the time and like to put them straight
To be fair, even if they do get it wrong sometimes I think telling someone their job based on a post on an internet forum is a bit of a cheek. I doubt you'd appreciate me turning up at your work and telling you how to do your job.
I'll try and dig out the actual current policy on non-Tesco coupons for you, as it certainly seems to be a bone of contention. But as sinw says, half the time the staff make it up as they go along so you might as well carry on trying to use them.0
