Asked my favourite friendly SA who was on Tesco Customer Services today and she had not heard any such thing...she went into shock at the very thought of them being stopped as she( and most of the other SA's ) use them.I used over £15 worth ( 2 manufacturers for total of 50p and the rest all printed internet) with absolutely no trouble at all .
  • My local tescos no longer accept internet coupons and will only take MOC if you have actually brought the item  .

This has only been thier policy for the last 6months though.

Any more news on this, it seems different everywhere?
  • Usually no problems putting in 5 vouchers at my Tesco, as long as they don't exceed over half the value of the bill. Today one lad said he had just been told that you had to buy the products to get the money off. Hope that this was just a one off.
  • My coupons were rejected at the Aylesbury store last week - I was told by a supervisor it was a new policy come in that you had to buy the product.

As of June 2006, Tesco's official policy, and the training they give to checkout staff is only to accept coupons if you've bought the item on the coupon and met the qualifying conditions. They will also accept other retailer's £x off when you spend £x coupons, but no others.

However, for many many years they just accepted any old coupon, so some checkout staff who have been there a long time and dont really pay attention to training etc will still play by the old rule and you will be able to give them any coupon and they will accept it. It very much depends on who is serving you at the time.
  • I used to be scared stiff of using coupons, eyeing up the right SA & trying to be all chatty & friendly etc. Not any more.....since not caring two hoots, it seems that every single SAs I used will happily scan away, whatever I give them. Using coupons is a bonus, so I feel if they get accepted I got a lucky break, and if they don't, I was shopping anyway.

I must admit, I wouldn't shop in Tesco if they didn't take coupons!

Sorry but that's absolute twaddle! :rotfl:

There was a communication to all stores (by HO at Cheshunt I think) but it was in June 2007 and it stated the policy that we know and love. That is that you do NOT have to buy the products as long as you only use one of each product coupon and it is in date (and not with a Tesco logo and not any other Supermarket specific).

Trouble is many stores didn't know about it as it was in a normal CS Daily Update which they often don't read. Also CS updates are not sent to Dundee Call Centre so they never saw it either. And some stores know about the Update but still don't allow coupons at all or have their own version of the policy, due to previous abuse.

That's why many Tesco staff do not know what they should be doing and Dundee are not much help on the subject either!

If it's a new Tesco then my view would be that it's probably up to their customers to 'educate' them on the real coupon policy. I am serious, they won't have a clue IMHO.

The policy is as I have stated on the previous page - you can use one of each in-date nss coupon and can pay for your whole shop that way if you wish. Only some stores don't know or won't allow it.

A new store may be willing to play ball with a customer who is polite, persistent and knows the policy. I would start at the CS desk and not 'ask what their coupon policy is' (never do this, it's a leading question that leads them up any path they want to take you!).

Instead, ask them if they are complying with Tesco corporate coupon policy, and if they look blank explain what it is and mention the CS Update which went out to all stores in June 2007. If they ask how you know, say you have a relative who works for Tesco in another County (so they can't ask to pin you down about which store where they may have colleagues, who may not allow the policy, etc). You may have to speak to a Till Manager or Duty Manager until you get a Tesco long-term employee who may just know what you are talking about!

Go on, someone needs to start the ball rolling there or they will make something up and it won't be as generous as the real policy!

Don't just go to a till, you will be likely to get told you have to buy the product by new staff who don't know any better.
