I've looked at Exeter to birmingham 2-4 oct which comes out at £52 (2 x singles £26) and the birmingham to leicester rtn works out £14 rtn total £66. Although this is cheaper than the £87.50 rtn fare they are quoting is it possible to find it or do it another way cheaper?0

Sadly, I think the best you will now get is your £66.00.0 -
Cheap tickets to London, Brighton, or anywhere on the First Capital Connect (Thameslink) network are available from the Tourist Information Office.
The Bedford Tourist Information (TI) sells these tickets, but they should be available from any TI offices within the First Capital Connect (FCC) network.
The tickets are ONLY valid on FCC trains and at off-peak times. (after 10am weekdays & anytime weekends)
You can travel anywhere on the FCC network for the whole day.
FCC stations include Peterborough, Kings-Lynn, Cambridge, Bedford & Flitwick.
Ticket prices are £14 - adult & £2 - child (5-15) Under fives travel free.
We recently spent the day in Brighton, from Bedford, and it cost us £30 (2 adults & 1 child). The cheapest fare from FCC would have been £75.
There are weekend works on the line between St. Pancras & London Bridge, so the journey has to be broken up on Saturdays & Sundays, but there are replacement bus services in place, which are covered by the ticket.
This is an ongoing deal which we use quite often.
Apologies if this has already been covered.0 -

.
No - there is a very limited set of TI offices where they can be had - it's buried somewhere on the FCC website.
But a good offer nevertheless0 -
Thanks for mentioning that FCC offer, very useful to know about in future.
Just looked it up, the list of Tourist Information Offices is at the bottom of this page if anyone else wants to know: http://www.firstcapitalconnect.co.uk/Main.php?iCmsPageId=1040 -
I am off to London on Saturday from Stoke-on-Trent. Looking to arrive in London at 10am-11ish and then leaving around 9pmish. Its for three 2 adults and a 16 year old. I have a Young persons card and the best we can get is £145, can this be beaten?
Any help appreciated.0 -

Yes, but at a cost its takes longer and you have to leave London earlier but the total cost is £53.20 for 3 adults, 1 with 16-25 RC.
Go to NXEC website and enter your journey details and search, wait for results then on the left hand side select 'show slower results' tick 'via london midland trains only' and then update.
Or you can on the day go to the station and ask for some 'London Midland Super off peak Returns' from the station as these are walk on fares.
Stoke to London 0700 arrives 0951 / London to Stoke 1846 arrives 2115
*****Edit 4/09/09 17:00 - London Midland Trains are having problems with their train staff and therefore there are no London Midland trains on Sunday 6th Sept. Please verify at the railway station before you buy your tickets that you can travel on another Train companies trains (Virgin) with your London Midland Ticket.*****

Hi,
I'm looking at tickets on NEEC for two people going from Stoke to London (return). I found a return off-peak price of £109 for both passengers (which I think it's not bad). But the website says "Valid on off-peak services by the route and Train operator shown."
But the website shows it with Virgin on the outward leg but with London Midland on the return. My question is, will I be able to use the £109 return ticket even if I want to use it with different train operators? Or does it need to be with the same one and if so, does it matter which one? Is the NEEC website selling me something I cannot use?
:huh::huh:

This particular fare is valid on any off peak train of any operator on any valid route between Stoke and London - you can even travel to Paddington via Birmingham and Oxford if you wish using Cross Country Chiltern and First Great Western. You can also buy it on the day at the same price.
Cheaper fares are available - from £20 each return - using London Midland services only.
The wording on the website is a standard phrase - don't worry about it0 -
Hovering over the prices at the top of the page on the NXEC website will tell you if their are any restrictions on route or train operator.Did you really mean to put loose?
Lose: no longer possess, not to retain, unable to find
Loose: not firmly or tightly fixed in place0
