The glory of porridge (merged)

I use Tesco basic oats with semi skimmed milk done in the microwave.
Then I slice a banana and add some of those frozen berries from Tesco (£1.29 from freezer section) and then add some chopped seedless grapes.
My Mum sometimes treats me to the Yeo Valley summer fruits compote, which is delicious.
If it's a hot day, I never know what to have, but I always miss my porridge.NSK Zombie # SFD 7/15 Food Bank £0/£5

I love porridge in the winter & previously wouldn't eat it in summer but making it with yoghurt & fruit & obvioulsy not cookung is lovely! I make mine the night before & leave it in the fridge till morning. The oats soak up the yogurt, well worth trying!!0

Porridge wasn't ever on our menu when I was growing up. Tried it as an adult and didn't like it...tried it again some years later and still didn't like it. I use lots of oats but they are for flapjacks and staffs oatcakes in this house :-)Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

I have half a mug of porridge oats, half a mug of water and half a mug of milk. Put a handful of frozen blueberries in it and cook it very slowly. When its nearly done, I put a sliced banana in as well.
(Sometimes I have a bit of treacle too)0 -
I soak mine overnight in water then cook them up (whole oats- organic if I can afford it at the time) the next day, I either have them with milk and banana only or with milk and stewed apple or on very rare days raw sugar or honey and milk. I grew up on porridge as my Nan made it and it was one of the few things I could stomach for breakfast.Thailand 3010/15000 20150

Cheap, warming, delicious and filling what more could you want for breakfast on a cold winters morning.Fillis you full of warmth and energy to last you through till lunchtim.I buy a kilo of Tesco's value oats and they are fine.yesterday i saw som Jordans jumbo organic oats marked down in Sainsbobs as the packet had been damaged to 60p so I chucked them in the trolley as it won't be long before winter is here again.0 -
What makes you think the way you describe is the "right" way.
I like it thick made with water and salt.
I only meant it was my right way.
My DD loves it so thick you could slice it, and with berries and seeds and no sugar

Nowt wrong with Tesco Value oats!!! I used to buy those myself, but on my last couple of trips to Tesco they have only had the Scottish Porridge Oats which aren't as nice. So I've been buying Mornflake ones (which are no more expensive than the Tesco Value ones). I make porridge with half soya milk, half water then add sugar to taste. It's the most filling breakfast - I don't need to eat until the evening after having porridge for breakfast.
lol I know, I was just being daft, though I did feel a bit like I was saying something dirty after all the organic oats that were going around...:heartpulsSpoiling my two baby girls with love - it's free and it's fun!:heartpuls
I'm not very good at succinct. Why say something in 10 words when 100 will do?

I like proper full sized organic oats, but my budget dictats tesco value ones just now, I would rather spend the food money on something for a meal for everyone (I am the only regular porridge eater in the house). I have just had mine, I like it thick and rough, seasoned with some salt, and topped with some sugar, and milk. I sometimes make it with half milk, half water and put chopped plums in, I love it loke that, but my regular, cost effective way is as above. It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0
