The glory of porridge (merged)

Mmmmmmmmmmmm I love porridge!
I usually make mine with half semi skimmed and half soya milk, for some reason this gives it a really creamy texture. I sometimes stir in some berries (I'm using bilberries at the moment :j) and serve with a dollop of greek yoghurt and some golden syrup, or maple syrup if I'm feeling flush. Delish!
OH never has breakfast but this morning stared longingly at my porridge and said he was jealous he didn't have any! He reckons he's gonna get up to have breakfast with me tomorrow on his day off (hmm!) just so he can have some. We'll see how that one turns out :cool:0 -
I have had porridge every morning since 1982.
Just ordinary Oates, don't have to be big Oates but added to it after it's cooked in the microwave is two heaped desert spoons of oat bran and the same of oat meal, a cup of semi skinned milk and a banana sliced no sugar or salt. After that I can go cycling all day, with a Chicken char grill later on from Greggs perhaps.0 -
I make mine with value oats half milk half water and a pinch of salt. I like it as thick as possible, warm or cool, with a little sprinkle of sweetener on it. (Can't have sugar). Don't like extra milk on it.A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0

I have it with Scotts porridge Oats (never tried any other) and have it the Scottish way with water & salt, cooked in the microwave and then with cold milk on top.

Damn, I'm gonna have to search the cupboards now to try and find some oats.
..............and it's with milk and sugar for me0 -
I have raw oats, plain Alpro soya yogurt and a chopped apple, or blueberries or a pear mixed in, every morning. May not sound great but it beautiful and creamy, oaty and fruity and fills me up till lunch. I love it0

oooh another one here who fancies porridge now. Had a weetabix half an hour ago as well.
I like it either rolled oats or oatmeal, cooked with half milk, half water and salt and then some cold milk over the top of the dish when the skin is just beginning to form - no good if you add the milk and it sinks;).0 -
Very much depends on the weather, how early it is in the morning/side of bed I just got out of...:D
In the winter, generally with 50/50 semi-skimmed milk and water and a light sprinkle of salt (as taught by my dad and grandpa who lived to a ripe old age - sugar was for Sassenachs!)
Today and generally in the summer months - semi-skimmed and a handful of rasps and the tiniest drizzle of maple syrup - not too sweet. Stopped having it with salt so often when DD was weaning and liked to stick her hands in it and help herself! (Salt not so good for babies obviously) Bought a mini Thermos from Lakeland and used to have my porridge on the train every morning, much better than a cereal bar;)

It's usually Tesco Value oats (sorry!)
Nowt wrong with Tesco Value oats!!! I used to buy those myself, but on my last couple of trips to Tesco they have only had the Scottish Porridge Oats which aren't as nice. So I've been buying Mornflake ones (which are no more expensive than the Tesco Value ones). I make porridge with half soya milk, half water then add sugar to taste. It's the most filling breakfast - I don't need to eat until the evening after having porridge for breakfast.0
