Made on the stove with skimmed milk (no water), whatever oats I happen to have (usually Tesco Value or similar), and a squeeze of golden syrup or honey.

Never got the hang of making it in the microwave, I make a horrid mess every time!

Porridge is a winter thing for me - I can't imagine eating it in hot weather. I do mine in the microwave using a 'no boil over' jug from Lakeland which is brilliant (like you, angeltreats, I used to find to make a nasty mess every time but I've had no problems since I bought my special jug :)). What I haven't yet cracked is getting the porridge to the right consistency - I like it thick, but usually end up with stuff so thick I can slice it. I'll get it sorted this winter!

Toppings-wise, if I'm in a sweet-toothed mood I cook sliced banana with the oats then drizzle maple syrup over the top; less sickly favourites are raisin, flaked almonds and a bit of dark brown sugar, or spiced poached plums. I quite fancy berries now people have mentioned it - I'll have to freeze some so I can try it when the weather gets cooler. :)
Back after a very long break!
  • Well apparently I have mine like "festered, congealed wall-paper paste" (thanks boyfriend), so definately not the "right" way - I have it very very thick, kind of like a less sugary flapjack :rotfl:

Big oats, skimmed milk, raisins and agave nectar to sweeten, all blasted in the microwave until its so sticky its hard to pick up on a spoon.

I think I might just get a trough for the mornings so I can do away with the spoon and just stick my face in instead :D... I reckon that will give me an extra couple of minutes in bed in the morning.
    Two thumbs fresh!:money:

Make mine with water and salt.

OH has his served with cold milk and sugar and I serve mine with oat milk and sometimes a spoonful of coconut oil.

Have it every week-day regardless of weather.

In the summer I eat raw oats with milk topped with sugar and fresh berries or banana and maybe some plain yoghurt.

In the winter I make it either with milk or water and a teaspoon of salt. Cooked until it is fairly thick but not so thick you can stand a spoon up in it. My favourite way to have it is with golden syrup but usually I just throw some sugar on it (preferably demarerra, but more often than not it is plain ol' white sugar).

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

Is it just me who thinks that this thread is just a little bit rude? :o
