Hi guys,
Just wanted to post something saying if people find they cant palate it with milk but dont like water try oat milk-it may taste oaty on its own but of course the porridge itself compliments it.
I cant drink milk and use this instead but even with the choice I think it tastes nicer!
I was told not to put sugar in by a nutritionist and find dried fruit is a great substitute - cranberry and sultana as a mix works well.
Tomorrow im having swiss bircher muesli for a change though I think :-)0 -
I make with milk and usually add dried fruit or spoonful of honey or spoonful of golden syrup.mmmmmmmmmm. For brekkers tomorrow methinks2018 AFD 23/240

i actually prefer mine savoury
i make it with half milk, half water and a pinch of salt, cook it til it's pretty thick and instead of adding milk on top when it's cooked (yuck!) i add a bit of butter
i've been known to add in cheese and garlic granules too, very tasty
i do sometimes eat it sweetened but it's usually sickly sweet to me (even without much sugar) so i prefer it savoury instead0 -
I have mine with evaporated milk and a drizzle of honey.
My Gran used to do it like this and I still like it.

As it's so cold at present I'm resurrecting this thread as lots of good ideas here not least the World's Healthiest Foods recipes listed by Ted Hutchinson in post 4 (great website with interesting info too). I'm going to try these superfood versions.
I love porridge for breakfast and find it keeps me filled until lunch. I make mine in a bowl with 2:1 ratio of semi-skimmed milk plus a handful of raisins, zap in the microwave and add some extra milk before eating. The raisins go very juicy and satisfy my sweet tooth.somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0 -

I'm about to start eating this daily again and I have plenty of HM Rachel Allens cranberry and orange relish(I put a splash of port in) to put in it. Sounds like it won't go but as it is sweet and has orange in , it's really like adding a thick jam..What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0

My boyfriend and I loooooove eating porridge and enoy it for brekkie all year round. We make it with just oats and water (used to have it with milk but found using water just as tasty and a bit healthier :A). I've tried various topping combinations which mostly involve fruit as I find this adds enough sweetness without having to add extra sugar (although a wee drizzle of honey never goes a-miss!). My current favourite is chopped banana and a handful of raisins, mmmm!0

I love porridge any time of the day, part water part semi-skimmed milk handful of sultanas, cooked on the hob. A spoon of syrup, I prefer maple syrup but until that comes as a basic I have to make do with golden. In the really cold weather I was probably having a couple bowls a day, it seems to keep you warm for ages after you've eaten it.0
