What makes you think the way you describe is the "right" way.

Oats soaked in water overnight in a porringer, then the porringer brought to the boil, then turned off, the porridge stirred whilst it thickens, a little more water added if needed, OH has salt and milk on his, I have demererra sugar and milk on mine.

I hated porridge as a child, but have started eating it this year, we have it every morning.

Oats, with equal parts milk/water to make it slightly thick. Also sugar or syrup I'm afraid :o I'll sometimes make stewed apple and cinnamon to go in it too.

    Hi sams,

I like it made with milk and add about a teaspoon of sugar. There's an earlier thread asking the same question:

And this thread may interest you too:

I'll add your post to the first link later to keep the replies together.

I like the instant microwaveable Ready Brek type. I use 40g,plus 7g linseed, and 7 g oatbran. I mix it with 200ml Oatley (non-dairy) 'milk and some water. Cook for 2 mins 40 secs, then stir. Then cook some more - about 40 secs. Then add granular sweetener. Low-fat, lots of oaty goodness, a bit of omega 3 (the flax) and no sugar (for the diabetes) and no salt. Not traditional, but suits me.

Porridge is the number 1 most popular breakfast in our house, certainly with my kids (2 and 3) who clamour for porridge every morning.

I'm a bit inconsistent in how it is made. It's usually Tesco Value oats (sorry!) and depending on how much milk is in the fridge it either gets made with all milk (ss), milk and water, or just water then a bit of milk on at the end to help cool it down. Dependent on what is requested it will have a mix, or at least one, of chopped up dried apricots, chopped up dates, sultanas and mixed seeds. Then a tiny bit of golden syrup.

I got some four grain porridge with my grocery delivery today and am looking forward to giving it a go.

I'm not very good at succinct. Why say something in 10 words when 100 will do?
