Don't use the Microwave porage, its not nearly as filling as proper Porage Oats made with or without milk

That’s what I have been starting to suspect. Is it possible to cook regular Porage Oats in the microwave?

I’ve about half a box of Tesco Finest Scottish Porridge Oats in a jar in the cupboard (which can’t be much different to Porage Oats, surely?) but no instructions on how to make it!

I don't think that Quaker make their Oatso Simple out of floor sweepings, it's certainly a more highly processed form of oats than the natural type and has added ingredients. I think your lack of fullness is not due to not using milk, but from the prepacked portion being smaller than the one you would measure out for yourself.

I think that eating anything that you don't enjoy or that doesn't satisfy you is false economy. Either use milk for the Quaker packets or go back to making proper porridge with basic oats and water/salt.

I part porridge oats, to 2 parts milk.

So half a cup of oats to one cup of milk.

Then extra milk on top in the cereal bowl, after its cooked.

When you microwave it with milk, it rises in the microwave, so don't do it in the cereal bowl, do it in a bigger bowl & transfer after its cooked (then add a little extra milk).

And yes it is possible to make normal porridge in the microwave, I do it occasionally at work. You just have to ensure you use a larger bowl than you'd think, and keep it covered up properly as it has a habit of swelling alarmingly and escaping all over the mic otherwise. Also porridge + porage = same stuff, just different ways of spelling.

Porridge made in the pan with pinhead oatmeal that's been soaked in water overnight, then add some more water and bring to the boil, simmer and serve with cold milk and salt to taste :)

I was being facetious with the comment about floor-sweepings ;)
You may have a point about the pre-packed portion measurement; I usually go for 50g of oats and I think the sachet has somewhat less than that.

I’ve around half a box of sachets left, so I’ll finish those first (but I’m going to go back to making it with milk to bulk it out a little) before going back to making proper porridge!

I make porridge in the microwave with ordinary oats, half a teacup of oats to a teacup of water, pinch of salt and on full power for 2min 10 secs and leave to stand for about 10 min. If I have it I add a few sainsbury basics frozen berries before cooking and add 10 secs, Mix in, sprinkle with brown sugar and a splash of milk. Guaranteed to keep you going all morning!

I do rolled oat in a bowl with semi-skimmed for 2mins 2osecs, handful of sultanas and squirt of good quality honey. Love it, keeps me going til tea-time. I have this about 10.30. Lost weight also. My other half does the same but he has smart price porridge. I prefer the rolled oats even tho my DD says it tastes like baby food.
