  • would like to nominate a charity
the fragile X Society registered charity No 1003981
    www.fragilex.org.uk

Fragile X syndrome is the most common inherited cause of learning difficulties.

The charity is small and not very well known, but is fantastic, always someone there to help, giving advice or just listening to you.
  • a) Freshfields Animal Rescue

    b) www.freshfieldsrescue.org.uk

    c) very small independant rescue for cats dogs small animals/birds, also wildlife and "farm animals".

    d) No animal is ever destroyed even if it means they live there forever. Animals are often left tied up outside or thrown over the wall by the public because it is in an out of the way place and no one can see this going on. It has severe money problems at the moment and the paid staff are going without wages, (not for the first time). They are having to sell their charity shop to raise funds. They take overflows from other rescues including RSPCA because they cannot say no (as the alternative is death for the animal). Please consider them as they are very resourceful but are fighting a losing battle at the moment as everyone is dumping animals they can no longer afford to keep.

    c. Support for the families of special needs children
    d. My sister has 4 children, one of whom has special needs. Parents of special needs children face very difficult challenges. This Devon-based charity provides advice, information and support for the parents, families and carers of children who have been diagnosed with a special need or a life threatening condition. They also work in partnership with Devon County Council and Devon Primary Care Trust to deliver a local Face 2 Face service - a network of trained volunteer befrienders (like my sister) who are not only trained in counselling but are themselves parents of children with a special need and so can offer emotional and practical support parent-to-parent. Such support can make a huge difference to the family of a special needs child.
  • a. HOMElinkb. http://www.wickonline.com/homelink.htmc.helps support and house the homeless of arun. d. HOMElink provides access to housing for those who are designated as "non-priority" under current homelessness legislation. These people, who are mostly young and single, have little or no prospect of securing permanent accommodation through the Local Authority or Housing Associations. They run a breakfast club during the week and will be opening a drop in shop which will provide information. You can have everything one day and loose it all the next. Homelessness can effect anyone. Any amount of grant can make a world of difference to these people.

  • a) The National Literacy Trust

    b) www.literacytrust.org.uk

    c) Helping everyone fulfil their potential through literacy

    d) Giving books to children from disadvantaged backgrounds and inspiring a love of reading; helping parents communicate better with their babies and toddlers; motivating boys and men to read through their love of sport. These are some of the ways the National Literacy Trust, an independent charity, is making sure everybody has the reading, writing, speaking and listening skills they need to fulfil their potential. Poor skills compromise people's health, confidence, employability and happiness and also have a negative impact on our national economy. We change lives through literacy by linking home, school and the wider community. As more and more people are working, shopping and, of course, saving money online, the cost of being unable to take part because of poor literacy will only get higher. Please help us make sure that no one is left behind as we move into the digital future.

    C. Uniformed, Disciplined Youth Organisation for boys and girls.
    D. The Corps basic training relates to seamanship, but also covers many other subjects that will be useful and fun to any young person. The training is badge related and cadets proceed through the training to become petty officers. The activities are subsidised by money raised by the corps throughout the year. TS Implacable is run by a dedicated number of volunteers who give up their free time to take the children on various activities, which include sailing, band engaements, rememberance day parades etc. The ancient minibus that takes the children to these activities is very old and in need of retierment. The corps are trying to raise enough money to buy a replacement. With out a mini bus the cadets would be unable to do many of their activities.

    Charity Reg. No.
Support Dogs is a UK charity dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with epilepsy, autism and disabilities by training dogs to act as efficient and safe assistants to support their owners with their specific disability. As registered Assistance Dogs, all Support Dogs have full access into restricted areas and are able to accompany their owner at all times.. So far the charity has trained 150 dogs since its inception in 1992. Each dog costs in the region of £10,000 to train and support for life and we are committed to our policy of making no charge to the disabled person for the dogs training. This is a tremendous charity, which impacts not only on the disabled but also on the family. These dogs give confidence to epileptics (often resulting in reducing their seizures as they are less stressed). Help with with autistic children who often relate to an animal rather than a human. Give freedom to wheelchair users and the incapacitated by rendering assistance. It is a charity, which helps both humans and animals, as many of the dogs are rescue dogs.
