So did they not give you a valid reason for closing the account?0

None. The letter said they wouldn't change their minds or discuss it so that was fine by me.
I just hope Alliance and Leicester don't object to significant gambling transactions0 -
Surely they should give a proper reason as to why they closed the account?
Have you considered complaining to the Ombudsman?0 -
Sorry I'd forgotten all about this until now. I had no idea it would provoke quite a little discussion here as I only saw the first few responses. I know there's nothing worse than having someone tell a joke then having to wait over 5 weeks for the punchline! Many apologies for this.
A visit to my branch revealed that the letter was genuine. I was always going to contact the bank ASAP, I just felt like asking if this was something that NatWest do regularly, hope you don't mind donny osmonds mad fanThere was nothing more sinister behind this either for those with suspicious minds
If I did type please not instead of please note, that's all it was - a typo. I just copied the letter onto the forum quickly. I make a lot of money from gambling, mostly through Betfair. More and more people do this these days although I appreciate that it's still not a mainstream occupation. I had to look up what a troll was too (I'm not an internet forum regular). Not guilty to that one too.
The address they were asking me to send the cards and cheque book to for those who wanted to know is: NatWest, Account Closure Department, PO Box 1000, Edinburgh, EH12 1HQ.
The strange thing is that 45 days after they sent the letter telling they were closing my account in 30 days, the account is still working fine and I can log into the online banking with no problems. I went into my branch for a second time to ask what was going on and they didn't have a clue as apparently once their account closure department get hold of anything, the regular bank staff are helpless. All in all, not great service from NatWest. I've withdrawn all the money now anyway, but at least if you say you're going to close the account in 30 days, you should actually do it
That address sounds familiar. I can believe this is genuine to be honest-what has your local branch said-I very much doubt the branch would discuss it-when an account gets to that stage they don't want to talk unfortunately-they just want to close the account by the looks of it. But then you say it's still active so is it sorted now?Loan-£3600 only 24 months of payments to go!!!
All debt consolodated and cards destroyed!!

How many personal accounts do you know have the sort of turnover that you are talking about?0
