I was a very good girl last night and sat and sewed a curtain for the front door, now I just need to make some sausage type draft excluders but I can't work out what to stuff them with which is heavy enough to keep them in place but not too heavy in case some one kicks them with bare feet :D

Bear with me... this is stage one of a thinking process......

If you sew a curtain for the front door and sew in a 'tunnel' at the bottom, you could slide a sausage type draught excluder into the tunnel. This would keep the curtain tight to the door.

....or is that a daft idea? :o

Been to Primark today and bought a load of fleecy blankets/throws for £3 each (normal price too!)

Okay, so they are not the best quality/thickest in the world, but they will be perfect for putting under the bed sheets on the mattress and I was going to make the little ones some warm sheets for their little beds, bit I couldn't have made them cheaper than that.

To just throw across my shoulders in winter evenings at home, they will be great!

Thanks Jay-jay but the draft excluders aren't for the front door but ones leading from the lean to utility where it blows a gale under the door.

The curtain for the front door has been converted from two curtains sewn bottom to bottom with a huge hem to weigh it down. Wonder if I could use rice or dried beans to stuff them with?

I usually keep the curtains open so that my plants don't wither and die, so I'm probably wasting a lot of heat. The windowsills aren't wide enough for pots. How much light do plants need? Would an hour a day do them?
No plants need lots of light some more than others depends on natural requirements in the wild.

Why don't you fill them with fine sand. You can get bags of play sand for sandpits at ELC. You could use some old polycotton sheets to make them and then put a tougher fabric around to double up. Just an idea.

when I was a little girl I remember draught excluders filled with sawdust. It made them heavy enough to stay in place but light enough to move with a foot
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!
