  • he still moans about the socks if I am REALLY cold though :(

Do what I do and warm your feet on his back - hehe! :rotfl:

Must admit I'm soooo tempted by the polartec blankets. I love being snuggled and cosy indoors with a hot chocolate while the rain is lashing down on the windows. Unfortunately with all that comes the guarantee that you'll be getting drenched during the school run - not as fun

I know that that we are not allowed to give medical advice but don't think this is.

But don't forget that feeling cold all the time and having problems getting warm could be a medical problem for example being anemic.

So if you are concerned then have a chat with your Dr.

Had double glazing fitted 2yrs ago and the place is lovely now. But last weekend I did insulate the front door - new brush on the letter bow, brush on the bottom of the door and that squidgy tape stuff to go round the inside of the door - I can't believe a difference its all made already!

Bidding on leather glvoes and warm hiking boots on ebay (cos I can't afford new ones) and taking the kids to Primark tomorrow to ladden them with carddies and jumpers.

Our winter warmers this year will be the £1.62 meals for 6 thread that I found earlier today and lots of long walks! Fresh air is good and taking them outside for an hour will make the appreciate the warmth when they get back.

But, the biggest problem I have, is asking the kids to turn the heating up "a touch". They don't understand. Despite the eldest at 14 and 11, they cannot see when I show them, not understand when I try to explain, what a "touch" is.
I've tried a big red marker pen today - and marked it at the maximum they are allowed to put it at!
And someone keeps turning the bl@@dy hot water on. I know its the eldest cos she loves her baths - but everytime I go in the kitchen its on and everyone denies its them!

But looking at the posts here, I am getting a winter cupboard ready, just incase the power companies do have to switch off for a while! Just torches, batteries, candles, and getting out the camping stove for heat and food if neccessary!

Cheap heating? A person usually gives off 1/8th of a kilowatt of heat - so if you invite 24 people round you'll get the same amount of free heat as a three bar electric fire.

Just thought I'd tell you that :)

So when this baby arrives we'll be the equivalent of a one bar fire?! ;)

ok im offically sitting here with a wooly hat on.... :o
  • We moved into our council house last year, and were totally shocked by last winters fuel bill. So this year I have been onto the council.

We have electric storage heaters, and having had no experience of them before, didn't realise that all of them were not working efficiently. So the noce man at the council has replaced them all. Last winter as well as having all the heaters on we relied on a coal fire to keep warm enough. It cost an average of £60.00 per month on top of the electric bill:eek: in coal. This year I am having a bulk order of logs and less coal. and now the storage heaters work it already feels different. Also checking on the loft insulation we realised it's not thick enough so we are waiting for an inspection and hopefully some more insulation. OH is not looking forward to this as he will have to empty the loft.

The best thing to keep warm is a nice cuddle on the sofa with the kids ( or OH ).

Oh well off to bed now to warm my feet on his back in the bed that has been warmed up.

Get him to warm the bed first:rotfl:

Now, I know this is going to seem like a silly question but I have a hot water tank with like the hard foam outer covering on it, would I still need to get one of those quilted jackets for it or is it fine without.
I've got the same type of foam stuff on our hot water tank and wondered the same thing. I find that the water doesn't stay as hot in the winter but I don't know if you can put a jacket on top of the foam?

  • I'm beginning to wonder if I'm living on a different planet to you lot as I'm still sitting here now in just a short sleeved top, bare feet, with the window open and no heating on at almost 1.30am! ... and I'm NOT cold!!! :p
