@Idiophreak sorry disagree, may it's just a case of different generations
in my first job I was paid for a 5 day week but ended up working most weekends as well for nothing. That's just the way it was 20years back.

I really don't think big companies get away with getting thier 'pound of flesh' anymore as the OP says.

Yes, I've done this at times too....not a problem.

But there are things I've been asked to do where, frankly, I just didn't need the money *that* badly.

I find with work - If you give a bit extra, They let you take a bit extra...
What tends to go around, Tends to come back around...
    Give and Take..

Sure the majority of people will agree with me..

and what if the manager did nothing and sonny jim here told a customer to 'shove it'

people on here would be screaming to have the manager and the kid sacked, plus lots and lots of compensation for the distress. I'm luv'in it.

I agree with that. I am nice to boss, I stay later than what I am meant to, I help the others out when I am not doing anything. I also know the managers password so I can do things he can (clock people in/out etc.) and I don't abuse it, he knows I have it and doesn't mind. If the others found out what it was, he would change it.

Exactly the same as me in myt previous job, I was the youngest but as i showed the most initiative (i.e. staying and helping) he even left the keys with me if he had to leave early and trusted me with the safe codes etc.etc.etc.

In reality, it's 1 person forgetting 1 tshirt ONCE.

Was it? We're talking about one time, but have we been told that this hasn't happened regularly, it's just as wrong to assume it's one way than to assume it's the other.

As for Altarf "making it up" about being late...that was at least a reasonable assumption to make based on the evidence (as opposed to the above situation where there's no evidence either way)
It is logical to assume that someone who misses a bus that takes them 5 miles to work and then walks the 5 miles will be late. People tend to go to work a little early, but not the difference between a 5 mile bus journey and 5 mile walk early.
    Bought, not Brought

Altarf, if the employer requires a uniform to be worn as a condition of employment, then it is reasonable to expect that spare uniforms are kept by the employer at the place of work, to cover situation like this or where the uniform is soiled due to an accident/spillage of a drink/tommy sauce/etc.

The manager needs sacking or training, as he/she clearly has no management skills.

    What a load of garbage!
