There can be a hypocritical viewpoint on most things!

I once saw a mobile phone mast demonstration. 100's of people protesting about the damage this new phone mast would do to their health. Most of them had a mobile phone to their ears talking to someone ebout it.....:rotfl:

this thread has taken a strange turning!

I'm sure that there are very few people who don't understand that McD supplies largely unhealthy and inferior food (ask any school child!) - however, you are correct, it has become embedded in our culture. Nor are the global implications a surprise - see any high street with the Mcjunk blowing down it.

Although I was being flippant earlier with Tim about the 'minority' I use them myself - was in there last week in fact. Reason? certainly not because of their tasty food - only McD can consistently produce chips that have clearly been kept warm for hours (not sure how they manage that) and whose lack of wholesome flavour is disguised with a liberal helping of salt, but because all too often there is simply nowhere else. How many independent or small chain cafes are left?

Back to the op - he has already stated that he lives in a remote area, so I guess jobs for a teenager aren't falling from the trees.

She used the RANDOM UPPER CASE mid-sentence typing so it must be true.

What I often wonder about these ranters is if they periodically check up on their claims, for example if a local company is invovled in meat production and I see them violently killing a cow in a manner that isn't needed or acceptable is it fair that I spend the next 20 years telling people that they do this if i don't check to see if they've changed their processes? How are we to know McDonald's are still operating in the way Phoenix claims unless Phoenix has consistently been checking up on them. The other problem with these ranters is that they can't stick to the truth, they always exaggerate or simple make things up to add to their argument. "See the McLibel case for details"

This thread has turned weird. OP was stating a difficulty. His son a regular worker, living in a rural area with next to no public transport so OK to rely on parents for lift to work. I did that when my kids worked where public transport an issue. The main thing was that they wanted to earn to have money to not rely on us.

Yes I think McD a bit unfair but yes I do think kids should go prepared for work. I think an exception should have been made here as he seems to have been an exemplary employee. Jobsworthy?

Well said, it has went quite awry, I can't deny i've played some part in keeping it offtopic but it's just the way people are, there are hundreds of thousands of companies operating in the same way as McDonald's but as they are not as succesful people don't constantly attack them. It's the same with Microsoft, start a thread on one of their products and somebody will appear from the woodwork to have a go at the company and tell us all we should be using Linux or browsing with Firefox.

I suspect the reason is the lack of common sense that is certainly apparent in this case. If we are to assume that nothing else is going on, then it was a nonsense to send the lad home. Reprimand him, sure, he's probably a decent lad and would remember a bo**ocking. If the manager had an ulterior motive, ie over staffing, then it's not fair to use the situation as an excuse.

As for going ot - that went off on the first page with tales of knickers and martyrs! ;)
