Mc Donalds suck

My Son works for Mc Donalds. It's a good way to earn a few quid while at college etc.
Yesterday we went out for the day so he had to get a bus for work, which he missed! So he walked 5 miles to work.
Having got there he realised he had forgotten his work T-shirt, so asked if he could borrow one.
The shift manager said no, He would have to walk home and get it! Yeah, thanks!
He told them to shove it.
Nothing like valueing your employees

What do you expect for a McJob?
Unfortunately, despite their objections to the dictionary definition of the word 'McJob', McDonalds will never get the definition changed, because they don't give a sh*t about their workers.
Your son needs to complain to McDonalds HR dept IN WRITING, even if he hasn't been working there for over 12 months. What the supervisor did won't be popular with them, so it's worth reporting the supervisor just to get him into trouble if nothing more. If you're lucky, he might get sacked or demoted to !!!!!! (of burgers!).
Revenge is sweet.
This type of story might even be worth a couple of column inches in The Sun. They really LOVE McDonalds. Make sure your son's facts are right first before contacting them though! Email your story to : talkback@the-sun.co.uk

Altarf, if the employer requires a uniform to be worn as a condition of employment, then it is reasonable to expect that spare uniforms are kept by the employer at the place of work, to cover situation like this or where the uniform is soiled due to an accident/spillage of a drink/tommy sauce/etc.
The manager needs sacking or training, as he/she clearly has no management skills.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
McDonald's is rubbish anyway. I can't understand why anyone would want to eat 'food' made of low quality ingredients, with unnecessarily high sugar and salt content, prepared and served to them by people who don't really care (it's not really a long term career choice for anyone).
It's the constant bombardement with McDonald's advertising that corrupts weak people's minds.
Well that's what I think, take it or leave it, lol!.....0 -
Bit harsh, Altarf.
The lad is young and possibly it's his first job. The suggestion that he go home to get the shirt was petty, as he would have clearly missed most of his shift.
Kids can't win sometimes - if he didn't work he'd be considered lazy - at least he's at college and attempting to pay his way - shows some responsibility in my book;)0 -
I agree with Altarf.
Firstly he missed the bus, then he hadn't brought the correct uniform, and then he told the manager to shove his job.Not very responsible.0 -
I run a building company and had a simular situation not long ago. One of my younger guys forgot his hard hat and hi vis clothing. I couldnt let him on site obviously due to health and safety regs. I only bring in new clothing on request or if im inducting new employees so there are not spares kicking around. (I found if i bring in plenty everyone takes a nice shiny new hardhat everyday.)
I asked my employee to go home and get it i did say however i would still pay him. But before you are quick to condemn McDonalds look at how the manager may have seen it. Your son possibly turned up late without his uniform even if he wasnt late his work uniform is a condition of his employment. The manager may not have had spare uniforms. Also when your son was asked to go home he was told to stick his job. Hardly the actions of someone you would want to employ anyway.
I can sympathise with him having to complete another 10 mile round trip but if he had just gone home im sure it would of served as a valuable lesson for the future.
I have to echo Altarf sentiments really it sounds like you almost do the work for him yourself.0 -
A 5 mile walk? Why didn't he just wait for the next bus? And why did he have to walk home and back to pick up the t-shirt, instead of using the bus? There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0

If an employee has been issued with a uniform. It is also reasonable to expect they turn up for work with it. It seems a bit sloppy to forget something so simple that is necessary for the job.How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

I expect if the clothes get soiled at work other uniform would be provided. But this isn't the case. How many places of work which require a uniform just let the staff turn up in any old clothes?
I can imagine this probably isn't the only time the manager/supervisor has been unhappy with your son so they were probably trying to get him to take a bit more responsibility. If he missed a bus then has to walk 5 miles he must have been at least an hour late.
Sometimes its a good management skill not to mollycoddle your staff, particularly if they frequently let you let down. I bet if he was perfect at his job this wouldn't have happened, there may have been other performance issues of course you wouldn't have known about.0
