Dad has been having real trouble with delusions (such as wanting to go home to protect Mum because the Japanese are invading England) and even when Mum showed him the papers with no mention of an invasion he said she must be blind because the headline is right there on the front page in big letters... which was when Mum realised that he was reading the paper with his eyes shut!

They've been taking bloods to see why he is having so much trouble and we all thought (were helped to think) that it was his morphine that was doing this.

Now it turns out he has MRSA (which I'm told (?) can cause hallucinations) and he's still in no state to have me visit and know that I'm there - and the family have got even more to worry about than looking after me.

But if he takes a turn for the worse then I'll be dropping everything and heading up north like a shot.

Now I'm off to look up MRSA but if anyone knows of a site with a good explanation I'd be very grateful if you post it for me.

    Squeaky.

i suggest the bbc as a starting point - whenever there is any outbreak of health problems, they normally give a very clear, easy to follow breakdown of what the disease for example is, problems it can cause, treatments etc. (go to https://www.bbc.co.uk/news andsearch mrsa)

even if it wont give you an in depth understanding, it will be a foundation to build upon when you go looking at proper medical sites for more complex info?

(also, perhaps have a word with ted hutchinson, he seems to be the guru on all things health)

you're in my thoughts squeaks *hugs*

I've been looking at the NHS site and at patients.uk

They're among the first sites to come up on a google search and they both seem to be pretty low key about it. There is some small possiblilty of confusion if Dad is suffering from toxic shock syndrome, but I say small because the incidence of this TSS is quite rare.

But he's certainly keeping the doctors busy at the moment.

The two sites don't make any mention of a mortality rate for this stuff, which Mum is very worried about - so I'll look around a bit more and then tell her (hopefully) to relax...

Good grief the very first entry I find in the BBC says that:-

    BBC wrote:
    Should I Worry About... MRSA?

If you've ever worried about British hospitals, here are some scary stats for you: In the last year 100,000 people who went into hospital got an infection there. Of those, 5,000 died.

Perhaps the question is not 'Should I worry about MRSA?' but 'How much should I worry?'

That's 1 in 20 if I've done my sums right. I can't possibly tell her that!

Have they said it's the MRSA that's causing the hallucinations? I only say this because my dad had MRSA, but had nothing like this, but did hallucinate with the morphine.

Sorry I can't be of more help, but sending big (((((hugs))))) to you anyway.
