Is it just me that has difficulty persuading my husband that saving money is a good idea???
I feel like I'm banging my head against a brick wall.
I have:
I recognise that I have previously spent more than I needed to but I'm now trying hard to save us some money which will help when we move house. What more can I do to convince him??? Please tell me I'm not alone.

I have:
- found us cheaper deals for gas and electricity;
- explained that the only sky channels we use can be obtained from freeview;
- got him to admit that he's not actually getting any benefit from the monthly fee he pays for his bank account;
- opened an Alliance & Leicester bank account for him so he gets his overdraft interest free;
- shown him why we should use our savings to pay off debts.

Some people are completely clueless about money......tell him I said so!
And then tell him to sign up here and explain to us why he won't do any of the above suggestions.....perhaps he likes throwing money down the toilet?......because that is exactly what he's doing!"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."

I know what you mean. My husband is not so bad with spending but it's the small things that matter too. I do all the finances so he doesn't get a look in but its things like buying stuff from Waitrose on the way home from work that really get to me. I like to do a weekly shop and that's it but if I'm away he buys convenience food rather than uses stuff already in the cupboard. He goes to the burger bar most days and pub every week. Mind you I wonder if its cos his dad died of cancer when he was 16 and his attitude is you've got to enjoy yourself sometimes,whereas I was taught to be very frugal. I like spending but enjoy saving it up first!!!!! Luckily he's self employed so buying tools and stuff is now tax deductable so he can spend what he likes.
What do other people do about this?
I suppose there is always going to be a compromise when there is a relationship.0 -

There is a big difference between enjoying life and peeing money up the wall!
If he doesn't understand what that difference is, then get him a copy of the Money Diet! (or better still, get him to sign up here)"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."

"We don't have a digital aerial so he wont cancel sky"
You don't need a digital aerial for freeview. If you have an aerial already installed it should do the job - our 20 year old one works very well!0 -
Lol, I think some people just cant seem to see the wood for the trees.
My brother is absolutely awful with his money, he gets a ridiculous amount of money to spend each month because he still lives at home, but 1 or 2 weeks after he is paid he is borrowing money from Mum just to get through the month. The reason I mention him is because he too PAYS for a bank account! I thought he was the only person stupid enough to do this, but obviously not!
It feels like you are banging your head against a brick wall when you try to suggest ways of saving money doesnt it?!0 -
Waitrose opened near to us last year. My husband was the first customer in...got a free bottle of Champagne. AND HE HAS BEEN IN EVERY DAY SINCE. I may as well just throw all my wages through the door on pay day0

just keep been persistant!
when i first met my fella i went and did some shopping for "us" and he has a lot of pride went mad thinking i had spent loads, i spent £20 & he had a bundle of notes in his hand to give me.
he use to buy the dearest of everything - which made me think was such a waste even his food shop was over £100 so i then did it was week and it came to £60 (and much more than he would have ever got) he nearly passed out at £60!
ive now converted him and he likes a good bargain - took a few years like!
he wants to cancel the sky and now he even makes me guilty for spending!
just keep on going cos he will see the results!0 -

Had leaflets distributed in the Stalinallee Stating that the people
Had forfeited the confidence of the government And could win it back only
By redoubled efforts. Would it not be easier In that case for the government
To dissolve the people
And elect another?0
