I got through the registration, initial investment (£1) and receipt of login ID OK. But nearly three weeks have passed since then, and I still don't have a password. They are saying it has been sent but I find that hard to believe. Starting to wonder if this is some con - collect £1 (or more) from everyone and then there's no way of getting it out again.

It's not a con - I currently have £25000 with them (kindly on loan from CC's at 0% for a while) and have made numerous deposits and withdrawls since opening.

Once you have that password, and log in regularly, you rarely have any problems. However getting that password can sometimes seem like an grind.

I hope you're right, Paul. Exactly three weeks to the day since I sent my original snail mail letter to their Wembley address, ICICI have now e-mailed me to ask me to send another snail mail to Wembley. Apparently only snail mail will do.

In that snail mail I have to request "another" password, even though I've never received a first one. And the address isn't even Freepost, so I've got to find another stamp!

This process is really dragging. One problem is they take about 36 hours to respond to each e-mail, and then always respond in the middle of the night. So, obviously the e-mails are all being handled from India.

My password arrived yesterday and I logged on with no problems at all, very smooth transaction, although one minor irk is that you do really get the feeling that no e-mails are personalised. Buy hey, what do I care - one of the best rates around and my account is open - recommend to all!

  • Everything went through fine. Seemed to take a bit longer for the money I transferred to hit the account, but not sure if that was previous bank's fault, or ICICI. Just waiting now to see my first lot of interest going through!;)

Today (28 May) is exactly a month from when I filled in the on-line application form (28 April). Still I have no password and hence no usable account. I can't put money into my account and I can't even remove the £1 deposit they banked twenty days ago.

The nice lady from NatWest has already contacted me to say she's "not very happy" about how much cash I'm holding in my current account. Well how does she think I feel? It's my money and it's earning virtually nothing! If they're getting impatient surely I have the right to get impatient too.

I can't just sit here doing nothing, so today I've kicked off the application process for the "second best" internet savings account: Birmingham Midshires (4.95%). The race is on!! I actually expect ICICI to 'win the race' because they have a month's head start. But we'll see. Watch this space...

If ICICI come up with the goods I think I'll still use them, because they do offer a better interest rate, and the consensus on this forum is that their account operates very smoothly once opened. I shall of course keep this forum fully informed of my progress on both fronts.

I've e-mailed them a couple of times recently and got replies within 48 hours.

I can answer your question, though. They will only accept a cheque drawn on your linked account for "security purposes". In fact, if you need to change your linked account, you would need to send them another cheque from your new account.
  • Opened an account a few months back. Whilst I had no trouble opening the account I have never been able to deposit money. Transactions are always reversed, despite adding various linked accounts! :(
