I had a bit of a faff but found it was because I was entering my account number, rather than log in ID. Could this be your problem. Follow the link from your email and login with the details the have sent you.
I've had no problems with this account. Having said that, I'm not constantly testing it. I just transfer funds whan I have to, with no probs.Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc0 -
also don't paste any of the information, wattapain, type it all in.
If all else fails, call them - that's what I did and they were very helpful (and told me not to paste!)0 -
Why do they make you send a cheque to open the account?
Does this not seem strange?0 -

Many accounts require a deposit to open. Not unusual.Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc0 -
student1, stevemcol is absolutely correct, this is very common. It serves as one of the means of confirming that you are who you say you are.
Also, for ICICI you send a cheque (1£ is all that's needed) from your "linked account" cheque book, so they can verify the direct debit mandate when they process the cheque, and you should be assured that the 'linked account' is set up properly when the cheque has been cashed.0 -

Well the account now seems to be working ok - maybe it took the weekend/holiday off!!
So I have just transferred £1K in and I'm gonna see how transfers in & out work over the nextfew days/weeks before putting any more in.

Dear linkup,
This thread is sadly biased. Everytime I post my ICICI experience has, so far, been 100%, I get beaten down0 -
ICICI has worked fine for me, too, so far - but I wouldn't put 170K into any single savings account, and I certainly wouldn't put more than the FSA guaranteed amount (32K? 23K? can't remember...) into ICICI
Edited: FSA guarantee is- 100% protection to the first £2,000 of a depositor's total deposits with the Bank and
- 90% of the next £33,000
