What exciting things can I do with couscous?

I often add a little bit of harissa paste - it's a Middle Eastern blend of spices and chilles - hot but tasty! The nicest I've found is Belazu, and the jars last for ages. On the same vein I'll sometimes add some Ras-el-Hanout, another Middle Eastern spice blend, or a good Cajun spice blend, depending on what I'm serving it with.
Sometimes I'll just add a stock cube and some dried mixed herbs, to add a bit of flavour and colour, or some chopped veggies, like tomato or peppers.0 -
Add a bit of turmeric to liven up the colour.....lemon and mint is a good combo if using as a salad type thingy...and any of the following...dried apricots, currants, raisins, sultanas, almonds are especially good if having with a lamb stew type of thing...Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly!0

It's really nice as a salad with chopped tomatoes and cucumber and a yoghurt and mint dressing ... yum yumThat's Numberwang!0

dried chilli flakes and dried mint. or chilli flakes and lemon zest.
the cup a soup works well but is full of enumbers.
you can also cook it using orange juice instead of water.0 -
I had some leftover tomato juice the last time I was making it and threw that in as the stock along with some leftover roast peppers. I thought it was nice. I'd say experiment with different stocks, fried veg etc and if all else fails and it doesn't taste nice fling in a bit of chilli powder to perk it up.0

also, if using the currants/raisins/sultanas/almonds/dried apricots as above, try adding cinnamon to the mix (or maybe mixed spice or nutmeg?)very tasty.
(i think i've seen a biscuit recipe using this mix with couscous but i'm not sure where sorry).0 -
I use stock powder mixed into the dry couscous and mix with hot water.
You can have it sweet as well, a bit like rice or quinoa. I know someone who has it with yoghurt. An average day in my life:hello: :mad: :coffee::coffee::coffee::T:rotfl: :rotfl:

Hi carinska,
We have an older thread with lots of cous cous ideas so I've merged your thread with it as it helps to keep all the suggestions together.

I often have cous cos at work for lunch. I get the Tesco Lemon and Corander one, it does for two lunches. Add some cherry tomatoes, cucumber, black olives and feta cheese. Yum!0

Can cous cous be frozen?
Like others, I buy the cheap Sainsburys pre-flavoured packs, but have not bought a bag of plain cous cous in the interests of money saving.
Would like to make up a large batch and freeze, presume that's ok?MFW #185
