Alleged push of a child by a parent, what to do?

I am a Governor at a primary school. As one of other posters said your most important job is to find out why this women was on school premises and alone with your child without a member of staff being around. If you can't get a satisfactory answer from the Head then write immediately to the Chair of Governors. This is totally unacceptable. The school has a care of duty to all of its pupils and that fact that the Head is trying to brush this off shows that the school is guilty of something. Also, do not give her the money back, it will just mean that her bullying tactics have worked.0

I agree with the other posters about not backing down and approaching the head again, but I would also be concerned abotu the initial contact - why was the head so adamant that he had heard the full version of the story, and why hadn't the secretary reported it to him in the first place?
There is at best some mis-communication here, and at worst it sounds like they are trying to shut you up and cover their backs. It is neither you nor your son's fault that the head wasn't involved until the later stage, but why they think you should have to repay the money is beyond me - stick to your guns, and if you are worried about your son, then tell him what you are planning. He is old enough to understand that what happened was not his fault, but needs resolving, and if he can see you doing so in a calm way, it will re-infornce the message that parents really can help out when kids are out of their depth, which is often lost when kids think they might be in trouble!0
