Great Cheap Internet Dating Site Hunt

  • Hi!
I went through looking and joining dating sites a few years ago and would make a few points. At the time the membership ratios were 7 men for each woman, so if you're a bloke you have to do something different to stand-out from the crowd. There are idiots of both sexes out there and you will get messed around and there are more idiots on the free sites than the paid for ones.

As I said my information is a bit out of date but ... I know alot of people who say faceparty is good, I think it stinks, but it doesn't cost anything, so go and have a look. datingdirect.com is expensive for a not very interactive site. I think you could tell who'd paid to sign up and who hadn't (and therefore definitely would not reply to any of your mails rather than probably would not. :-) ) match.com was OKish, there was a greater level of interaction, but I never really got into it.

Where I met my other half was at https://www.makefriendsonline.com. It's not explicitly a dating site and at that time for all sorts of reasons I was not looking for a partner (nor was she! :-) ) (With 20/20 hindsight you can try too hard to get a girlfriend.) The boards there are very lively - there are frequent get togethers all over the country.

    Good luck

I think this tends to be the case. There are some fairly simple [and obvious] things you can do, but as StockportGerbil says, many people don't.
[Those who have read my earlier post will know I have looked at quite a few sites, but only seriously used Dating Direct, pricey but in my view ok value.]

Have you looked at how aweful some of the photos on these sites are - a decent photo or two can help you stand out. With the drop in price of digital cameras most people should be able to buy or borrow one and upload a reasonable photo now.

Guys tend to write shorter profiles, women seem to write longer ones and be looking for that. Spend some time on your profile, browse others for ideas, some of the sites have helping hints, edit it in word and paste it when you are happy with it. Keep going back and improving on it, include something that makes you stand out. I replied to one that included the following:

"Does Jack Dee amuse you? Does Christopher Brookmyre make you laugh out loud as you try not to gag? Does injustice make you mad? Do you believe that life is for living and learning and that people matter more than things?"

Even if you are looking for sex to fill in the time between goin to the pub and the cinema [see earlier post], what do you do at the pub? listen to music, what sort of films do you like?

Also, don't look to desperate, play it cool. With the sites where you have to pay to message, you can use the favourites / who do I fancy section to indicate who interests you, they usually get a message to tell them you have added them, like wise keep an eye on who likes you. Gives you better odds than messaging them cold. I think this is the electronic equvilent of the lingering smile across a room! If they then add you, it might be worth paying to contact them or read their message.

All I can say is it worked for me and hope others have as much luck.

i've used a few dating sites, and actually met my wonderful boyfriend on a specifically Christian dating site - https://www.fusion101.com i would recommend it to anyone who counts themselves as a committed Christian and would like to meet someone like-minded! its actually completely free and a close friend met her (now) husband there. i also tried https://www.christianconnection.co.uk which is good too, though after the free trial you have to pay!

took me a while to get over the whole 'stigma' attached to internet dating, but as a busy person working a lot of evenings it seemed like the best option to me - and it's certainly worked!!! :)

  • Having used a dating agency three years ago for the first time I can highly recommend https://www.datingdirect.co.uk. I first signed up for a "3 day trial" at the time it was £5.95,....sussed it out, checked that it didn't look full of perves (!) and decided to pay for 3 month's subscription...within 2 days of subscribing (£29.95 for 3 months) I found the man of my dreams.....we met and fell madly in love with each other and have been inseperable since then. It was THE BEST £29.95 I have ever spent on myself....well you can't buy a pair of shoes for that girls these days can ya??!!!!...let alone a lifetime's happiness, which I hope we will have together. Before I get totally smalchy.....try Dating Direct, it's safe, easy to use, discreet, easy website to navigate and gives 1st CLASS CUSTOMER SERVICE! love and peace X

Yes, I agree. I know quite a few people, including myseld who've met partners through Dating Direct. But may not suit everyone, the instant messenging generation perhaps?

  • Hi!
Another option that hasn't been mentioned is dateline. They do have an internet presence but the majority of their customers don't seem to be online. It's horrendously expensive (so maybe not appropriate to mention it in this thread) but it might suit some.
