Try Plenty of Fish.com it's free, there's never any hassle with ads and not many unsavoury types :-) It's not just for love, you can meet a lot of people for idle chat, I've been meeting people online for years but only opted to meet a couple of guys.

You will find if you want to join Match.com that you have to have a credit card or send a money order to the states. Although someone did contact me once through a sneaky backdoor route...but he was a juggler so I guess he's used to tricky feats.....

Start one of your own! I found myself alone a few years ago, placed an ad in the local paper for likeminded people to join a social group and 46 people turned up.

Yeh....but the same people would probably turn up to any kind of event.

If you are already feeling sociable then you should be able to get any date you want anywhere, even in a supermarket or whatever.

I would never go to one of those social things. :D

I've been using Guardian Soulmates for about 6 months - met some really nice guys. When you have subscribed they always seem to offer a 10% discount when your subscription has nearly run out. I haven't tried waiting to see what happens if you don't renew...

I met my girlfriend of several months through Yahoo.....so they get the thumbs up!

I realise the thread is about moneysaving but I had better success with Yahoo and Match than I did with the free sites or Lycos. My experience of free sites was that there were a lot of timewasters. On the pay sites you tend to get better responses because of the fact that if people have paid out then they are likely to take the whole thing a bit more seriously.

I have used Dating Direct https://www.datingdirect.com It's not cheap, £19.99 for a month and 39.99 for 3 months currently. I've looked at a few other sites, some cheaper, some free, but never actually paid them any money. There are some that don't seem to vet the profiles very thoroughly[ https://www.loopylove.com https://www.pocado.com for example, look at other people's profiles, if they are including email addresses you probably can get away with it too] so you can include your email at hotplace dot com in there so people can contact you, but do you want people you haven't screened contacting you out of the blue? Best to set up a hotmail or other disposable, free account for all those contacts if you go that route. In the end I think there are times when the cheapest is not the best. With Dating Direct there are plenty of people registered, you can choose quite a lot of features for your profile, photos, searches and so on, message people etc. I met my current partner through it, we have been together nearly 2 years, so I think it was money well spent! I'm in Scotland, and it may be other sites have better coverage in other parts of UK. Nitejar in love. ;)

http://love.lycos.co.uk/lovelycos/ is totally free, has lots of members of all ages and was used by myself to find a young lady to help 'pitch my tent' at weekends a few years ago.

http://www.faceparty.com is also very good, and free, although not as interactive as Love@Lycos.

Feel free to ask if you have any questions about these two.
