I joined a fan site for a band I like on the net (not telling you who it is you will all laugh) and through that got chatting to a really nice guy who I got engaged to at the weekend.

I've tried a few over the last 3 years. All very similar TBH..Udate, datingdirect & match. Oh , I did try ivorytowers for a while (graduate dating).

They're all OK ish. I've been out on a few dates via the sites. No second dates though. I think, if you're lucky, you might find the right person there, but it would take one hell of a lot of work.

Speed dating is an OK ish idea again. But truthfully, unless you are drop dead gorgeous, do you think that a 3 minute impression is all that it takes for someone to really understand you. It's wrong as a concept. It says that superficial impressions are all that matter.

Anyway, I've sort of given up on the dating internet thing.

I've used various sites on and off over about 3 years. I go through phases; keen, post up profiles, send loads of messsages etc, get replies, go on one or two dates, then my enthusiasm fails so I let it all lie for a few months. Start over again.

Payed up sites are usually worth it. However, none of the sites compare to real life. Then there's the quandary of what to write. 99% of people "like having fun" apprently.
I've been through countless rewrites. Drink a few beers and think "express yourself", one week later think "no, they'll think I'm mad, restrain it." Then you end up with the usual meaningless, middle of the road tripe.

It's such a bind. One one hand, the internet offers a wonderful chance to meet someone you might not have met otherwise. On the other hand, it's not real reality, and sometime you meet someone who you like, but if you just saw their photograph you'd go no further.
