if she's the sort to keep the ring it looks like he made the right choice in ditching her.

If someone broke up with me they wouldn't stand a chance of getting the ring back - but thats just me ;)

Does seem like an expensive ring :(

    No it's not just you!:rotfl:

£8k could be a lot cheaper than a bad marriage and then divorce!

I have to agree. If he broke it off and she hasn't done anything wrong then the least he should do is forget about the ring.

Its the gentlemanly thing to do.

IN the olden days keeping ring was considered the compensation for breach of promise if the man called off the engagement and I think sometimes money an/or property also changed hands depending on the relative wealth of the individuals concerned.

Personally I would keep the ring but then I can be very vindictive when scorned!

    Me too !!

Personally I would be selling it then bobbing off for a couple of weeks to somewhere where there would be a chance to meet a nice rich man !!! :p

Sorry I'd say she should keep it too - firstly HE changed his mind not her and secondly tradition and law (I think) dictates it's hers...
When I got dumped by my ex many many years ago I threw my ring back at him... Now it was only a cheap ring in fairness but I do regret doing that as I picked it and I quite liked the design! I think his neice has it now...
Had it been expensive I certainly wouldn't have given/thrown it back.
Maybe once she settles down a little and if they get back on talking terms she might be amicable enough to agree to sell it and split the money?
Depending on how he dumped her then that might have some bearing on it ofcourse...

Why should she give it back if HE decide she wasn't right for him?

And I would say exactly the same the other way round, for example if I had bought my DF an expensive engagement gift, I wouldn't expect him to return it if I changed my mind about him being "the one".

Although £8k is a lot......but better now than after an average £17k wedding ;)
  • People who spend 8k on engagement rings don't have 17k wedddings.. The way I see it: If he dumped her, she keeps it. If she dumps him, he keeps it.

I threw my engagement ring back at my ex it was only £400 so not that expensive sort of wish i kept it as i picked it and really liked it but for my 21st i got some money and bought a similar ring anyway :)

I think she should keep it after all it was him who broke it off if your not sure on someone dont propose!!
