Just got back from £9 per night mini break on South Coast. Stayed at Travelodges in Eastbourne and Littlehampton.

Eastbourne is excellent and can highly recommend. Very new, converted period property. We had a sea view room and it was lovely hearing the sea at night (the road in front is not too busy). Room was spotlessly clean. Absolute bargain.

Second night at Littlehampton, room was large and clean but on a bypass. No character and noisy with windows open. Nevertheless managed to get a good night's sleep, but with earplugs in. Would have been disappointed if I had paid full price for this room.

Thanks to the staff at both Travelodges though. They were very knowledgeable about what to do in the local area and very helpful when we requested extra pillows, etc.

Hi, I am looking at booking at a Travelodge near to Birmingham Airport and wondered if anyone knew if they had any policy for leaving your vehicle on the car park whilst you are away on holiday? I have looked on their website and can find no information. Would it be really cheeky just to leave it there until we came back or would I find that it had been towed away on our return?!!
    Thanks

Every Travelodge I`ve stayed at have asked for my vehicle number.
So whether you would get away with it or not --- who knows.
But do try it and let us all know how you got on.

    Hi Rachel,

You definitely wouldn't get away with it at Gatwick as you only get the 24 hours of your stay, and I'm sure Birmingham will be the same.

Vivatifosi & alared thanks for those replies....alared I had been thinking of just parking up and making out that I had no vehicle....but I don't know how rigourous they would be at checking the car park for 'unauthorized' vehicles. The one I was looking at staying at in Birmingham has quite a large car park. Not sure I should chance it unless anyone else knows otherwise or has tried it before!!

I think you will find the car parks in the Birmingham are are all franchised out and you wll have to pay and display - its £3 per 24 hour period so I think an extended stay for free is impossible

This morning I tried to book a £19 room at Newcastle Seaton Burn. The site highlighted that they had a room free on the dates I wanted to book at £19. When I tried to book however the price charged jumped to £51 per night. Thinking I'd done something wrong we returned to the site tonight. Now the site highlights they don't have £19 rooms free but do have £29 rooms free on the nights we wanted. We tried to book a £29 room and again the price that came up was £51.

I phoned Travelodge and was told that all cheaper rooms had been booked, she didn't offer to check my specific hotel or dates. Surely a large company like Travelodge has software on their site so that they don't advertise rooms at one price when they don't in fact have any? This feels like a massive con to me. Surely they shouldn't advertise rooms as available at one price, let you start the booking procedure and only then do you discover the price is more than double.

The trouble with the Travel Lodge booking system is that it shows the available rooms and prices from 6am that morning, so if you are booking a while after that, the advertised rates cold well have gone.

    It is very frustrating.

    Hi
I have stayed at several Travelodges in the last year, and have at least two bookings outstanding for the school holidays. They are always clean, although on one occasion we were unable to book a non-smoking room, and it was a bit smelly.

I did start using the £1 insurance, but on one occasion, when my son was too ill to travel, I looked into the chances of claiming. Basically you can only claim if you are dead or dying. I stopped buying it after that.

I did get a surprise at London Heathrow, when they asked for £10 for 2 days parking when we checked in.

However, when you are saving sometimes in excess of £50/night, I suppose the parking fees just have to be bourne.

Top marks to Travelodge for making it affordable for families to have short breaks, without breaking the bank!!:j

They are definately transferable, as the person who books them isnt necessarily the person who uses them.....

Over the last 3 years I have had some wonderful deals including lots of 6 and 7 night stays as far North as Dundee, and as far south as Canterbury, with weeks in Docklands for £63, Cotswolds £63, Bangor £70, many in the midlands and North...but youve got to be quick, and sometimes not fussy...just get 6 or 7 days together and book.

Weve just come back from 6 days in Oswestry...a gateway to some lovely Welsh and Shropshire scenery....Got two more weeks at £9 a night, beginning and backend of August....

Theyre great for using as a base for sightseeing, always clean, and I always ring in advance and ask(as we are staying for a week), can we have the room, furthest away from the stairs on the upper floor, and furthest away from the road.....and so far its never failed...a quiet room every time....

Although i remember when you got a free TIMES newspaper every day, the towel raditors worked, you got two bath AND two hand towels, extra quilt, extra sheet, there was a tea pot, there was a bath hat, hairdrier, shampoo and shower gel and there were pictures on the walls, and you got soap in the sink...but hey....at £9 a night i can live without these....
