MONEY MORAL DILEMMA. Would you contribute to the cost of repair?

I'd pay my share without a doubt...though I wouldn't be happy. They would probably feel bad enough already without any of us having more of a grumble though. When doing something which is for joint use, but only in one persons name it pays to max any insurance options, even if you wouldn't if it were just for you.0

He should look what he's doing - so a £500 fine would sharpen his skills in future. Same goes for speeding etc.

Of course - I'd be damned annoyed with him but it would only be fair if he was the only one able to drive.:A0

I'd pay. He's been good enough to drive while the rest get driven, couldn't expect him to foot the bill himself.0

I'd pay without a doubt.
The driver is already making a massive contribution to the holiday by doing the driving.
I've been a sole driver on a mates holiday before, it gets to be a pain after a while (though i didn't crash).Match betting 2/04/08 - present profit £607
Cashback sites 2/04/08 - present profit £223 (mostly through bookies)0 -
I'd pay.
So how about a variation on the theme: The car is not rented, it belongs to the driver concerned. Would you contribute towards their (probably much lower) excess in that case?0 -
No dilemma here.....everyone has equal responsibility.0

I'll get ready for the backlash; but no I would not pay!
If the blokes got a driving license then he should be able to park a car, it's not about equal ops (NONE OF YOU WERE EQUAL BECAUSE ONLY HE COULD DRIVE-well according to him he could-I would be checking his crudentials at this point!)
I've driven in Portugal, we stayed in a villa that turned out to be in the middle of nowhere & the only way into the village was up a very windy road (which at night was not even lit with cats eyes!), you would have big lorries right up your rear end (so to speak) honking their horns when you could only see as far as your headlights lit & if you'd gone over the edge of the road it was a really big drop (no1 would of survived) & the pitiful little village we were in had a ridiculous 1 way system that meannt I could get to the mini-market but got lost everytime I tried to get back to the villa. Not to mention the fact that you're driving on the wrong side of the car, on the wrong side of the road (even the roundabouts go round the wrong way & the inside lane on the motorway is actually the slow lane!). I'd only been driving 2 yrs but did I crash? NOPE! (My other half can drive but the insurance went through roof with 2 of us insured on it so I offered to do all driving; if I'd crashed I wouldn't of expected him to foot the bill)
If you were at home & a friend offered you a lift then crashed because of their mistake would you pay half?
If they weren't capable of driving abroad then they should of said so!
ps He could of cancelled the credit card before they took the car back!0 -
Of course I would pay my share. As passengers we are already getting the better deal. It's less tiring, we get to see more of the scenery, and drink what we like. It would far from fair to let the driver take the hit for it.

If we had all wanted to hire the car then it should be a shared thing (with the driver paying most) to sort the cost of the damaged car + I'd probably call my friend an idiot for not being more careful with a hired car
