i found this thread by googling 'american life insurance contact uk'.
i dont have a well woman plan but i have one for my oldest two children. i have no docs etc, and every time i've tried to google them nothing has come up! it seems very strange to me that there is no easily accessible website, especially in this day and age! there's been 3 different numbers posted so far, and tomorrow i'll be calling all of them!

Don't know if you ended up calling them already or not, but I had a letter this week to tell me that following a premium review, my premiums will remain the same. It does confirm as part of the main letter content, that if I meet the premium payments throughout the 15 year policy, I will get a full refund of everything paid. The customer care line on their header is 0800 092 8090.

Its an utterly utterly awful awful (let me type the words twice to over-emphasise this point) plan. Go for real medical insurance not selected cancers (wow). As Primal Scream would say, don't fight it, feel it. Can't believe ANYBODY would do this.

    Hi

I have been paying into this policy since 2001, then no family history of female cancers.
Three years on, 3 members of my family were diagnosed all within 3 months of each other, so glad I did take this policy out.

So I am 11 years into this policy and assume as long as no claims been made, I should receive all my premiums back to me?

Can anyone confirm if this includes interest?
(am searching the policy details at present).

    Thank you.

How on earth would you expect them to stay in business if they not only gave you the premiums back but also gave you interest on the premiums as well?

TBH, I'm surprised they can afford to stay in business by giving all the premiums back anyway. They must be running their business model on the finest of profit margins.

Thanks for picking on my comment! :p

I'm sure there are better policies out there for many different reasons. I was only in my very early 20's when I was offered the policy and therefore at low risk <touches wood> of developing any problems of that nature during the life of the policy. I chose to take it out because of the fact it pays back your contributions at the end of the policy, how many policies do that?! I've not been in the best situation financially over the last couple of years, but have not missed the £6 payments going out each month. If all goes to plan & get a £1000 payment from them in 5 years time, then frankly, I'll be quite happy.

Finally found the letter update they sent me last April 2011.

Basically it just states on review (as they regulary review), they were pleased to confirm that they will not be making any changes on my premium at this current time.
So I continue to pay £8.95, which I have done since 2001, this payment will therefore continue a month.

Then it confirms that if you pay the required premium each month for 15 years and do not make a claim under the policy, they will refund all premiums paid up to that time, if you stop paying premiums on an earlier day, then no refund is available.

This is WellWoman Plus (Alico) based in Brighton, if anyone requires the email address to these, this is:

  • my child policy matured last year and all I got was their 'bonus' I didn't get all the money back like they told me when I started the policy, I was shocked when my cheque came so rang them I received a very rude letter stating I was never mis-sold this policy even though I know I was and their terms and conditions are utter rubbish reading and there only use is as toilet paper. I am interested to know whether the woman higher on this thread with child policies has contacted them and what they told her, if it is bad news I suggest she like me goes to a Ombudsman and makes a complaint against them, my complaint is still pending.
  • has anybody spoke to them recently, iv just discovered this site and i took out my policy 6 years ago paying 11.95 per month. im a little concerned now :S
  • Hi

I actually contacted them today, they are now part of AIG I believe and come under the name reassure. I was able to change my name and address and they are happy to send me a statement and policy book. I understand people have to have opinions on saving money but in this case I feel people should be allowed to choose what they feel they need to that's right for them.

    Thanks kelly

The issue is not the principle of having cover. Its just a case of whether niche products like this add value compared to a wider ranging critical illness policy.
