  • Hi, this is a very genuine company. We have had to claim and they paid in full on this policy. Hope that reassures you, contact me for any further questions. Darren.
  • Hi,

This is a very genuine company. We have had to claim and they paid in full on this policy. Unfortunately, my wife did die in august. I do remember when we originally started the claim that they were very difficult and demanding. The policy was originally setup by my wife, I had no idea what it was for....but boy did I learn quickly about cancer. Looking back, I now realise that we were paid because the cancer was so very aggressive. The policy did help us through a very tough two and a half year period, but the death of my wife is no comparison and a hard nut to chew.

Hope that reassures you about the company themselves and that people actually do get paid, contact me for any further questions.

    Darren.
  • Hi, I also ended up with one of these policies many many years ago, I had a telephone call from them, discussed it with them then said goodbye, I had not realised that I had signed up until I found the money coming out of my account, I called them to ask what this was and that I did not sign up to this and they played back a piece of our telephone conversation where I said yes, apparently this was enough and I was signed up, unhappy but unable to get out of it I continued as the monthly payment was low and I was going to get a refund if I did not make a claim, so put this down to my stupidity and hopefully I would not get cancer so would get a full refund eventually. Although Angie after reading your post I am slightly alarmed, I was not told that the cancer had to be life threatening, although a long time ago now I remember asking, what if I have to go into hospital to have a lump checked or removed could I go into a private hospital and have my suspected cancer checked immediately, rather than waiting for the GP etc.? and I was told all would be paid for any signs of cancer not when I was on my death bed. So I have completely the wrong end of the stick with this and am going to contact them for them to explain as to why I was mis sold this plan and as you agree the advertisment is so misleading - did think that this was OK initially now I am not sure it is for me, was it easy for you to get your money back?
  • My wife took out a policy with American life as she had cancer for the first time in 1998. She took out this policy in July 2006 after being clear for a number of years. She had non hodgkins lymphona. This cancer returned with a vengance this year and she passed away in hospital. Non hodgkins is not a recognised womens cancer so there is no return on this policy. l feel upset that she took this policy out thinking she was doing the right thing but it is not worth the paper it is written on. Beware of these people.

I've been paying 5.95 a month for this policy for a good few years now (about 7?). They sent me all the bumf etc explaining what was covered and what wasn't and that I would get my money back if I didn't claim after a certain amount of time.
Question I have is- can I get my money back now?? If I cancel the policy will the give me back my money or will they say I have to wait unti lthe end of the 15 years?

    Thanks for any help
