Thanks for offering to assist. Are you a consultant oncologist?

Please tell me the cancers that are covered and the probability of a woman who is 40 years old today being diagnosed with one of them during the following 20 years.

Does the breast cancer cover include non-invasive (confined to the duct) breast cancer, including DCIS and LCIS?

Please tell me roughly how many customers still have the policy after 1, 5, 10 and 15 years and whether the premiums are returned automatically or whether you have to ask.

Are the premiums fixed or can they change?

Are only women eligible for the Well Woman Plus cover or can men take it out and be covered for the conditions as well?

Can men take it out if they have had breast cancer, been cancer free for 3 years and be covered for a second incidence of breast cancer?

Can those who are genetically female but living as males take out the cover? Does this apply after surgery and hormone treatment?

Can those who are genetically male but living as females take out the cover? Does this apply after surgery and hormoe treatment?

Can intersex individuals take out the cover?

My Mum took this policy out, and it did pay out when she got breast cancer, it also paid her for every night she spent in hospital, don't know too many details but she seems quite happy with it.
I did notice though that once she was diagnoised (sp?) they claimed you had to have a certain kind of super invaisive breast cancer, which luckily (?!?) she did. I should imagine they are like most insurance companies and try to avoid paying out if they can.

I just had an unsolicited phone call (at work), trying to sign me up for their policy. The guy on the other end of the phone seemed surprised that I wasn't interested.

I just had one too, I think the phone calls are a scam. When I told her it was none of her business how old I am she called me a rude girl and hung up! Apparently they try to get bank details over the phone and I think they're playing on the fact this has been advertised on TV so be careful!
  • ive been paying these for 5 year i am hoping it is real.i need the phone number for american life ins where you get money back in15 yr if you havent claimed. please could someone pass it to me as i moved address and lost my policy i cant remember the address of the company and need to ring to change my address.it all seemed real when i had my policy booklet.
  • I have also been paying in for a few years now and haven't received any paperwork since the initial contact made, I found this thread searching to see if the Company was still about as I haven't seen any ads on the TV for a couple of years now.

I have also lost my paperwork and am not sure of their tel no or what address they hold for me. I would be grateful if anyone has the tel no/contact details too.

I must admit I was thinking of cancelling up until I read this thread and saw the quotes from people who work(ed) for American Life, I think I will stick with it now
  • Hi folks!
I too have been paying into this insurance for about 9 years (I think?). I can't find the paper work and need to get in touch with them.
I tried the link above and got a white page. Can anyone help with either a telephone number or web address please?
  • Hi,

Very new on this site and not too sure if I'm posting correctly!!

I also took one of these out some time ago for my wife and was also told you get the a after 10 or 15 years. However, we've moved a few times and I can't find the info either. Searching online isn't turning up much for me either (although if my wife wasn't trying to get me of the laptop I might stand more of a chance of finding the info we need!!)

I'd be grateful if someone could send me the website or contact details for American Life also.

    Thanks,

    Swifty

As for inflation that hasnt happened all the time ive known about however if it did then customerwould know 30 days in advance and still get all the money back anyway so they dont lose a penny
    Just seen the post #5.
Amazing that this person has not seen inflation before because I'm sure it's been present in the UK economy :-)

If you get all the money back nominally, it's not the same in real terms.
e.g. £100, 50 years ago wasa huge amount of money.
That's the point I as making.
Inflation is usually present in our economy although we could soon be entering an era of deflation ironically.

I wouldn't say this is a poor product as I'm not that knowledgeable but personally I would prefer to be covered for any sickness and don't go for these kind of specific products.
  • Hiya I am new to this so forgive me if I am doing it wrong,

I have just been changing my families surname and managed to find my wellwoman plus policy document - I do not know if the details are up to date though, I only ever received this correspondence with them back in 2003. Here is the telephone number: 0800 092 8090. I do know they are part of AIG and I have found a website that seems to have a wellwoman policy that looks like mine, check it out: aigdirectdotcodotuk/health/products/wellwoman - sorry it won't let me post a link so you will have to type it in yourself!

I hope this helps you out :rotfl:

I took out one of these policies, at the highest level, as my husband and I thought it was a good policy, especially with the payout element at the back end for premiums.

However, after a few months, I received a phone call from a young man asking if I was happy with the policy. I said that I was. He then went on to ask if I was sure I understood the policy clearly. I was intrigued by this so asked what he meant specifically. He asked if I understood that the policy would only pay out for "intrusive" forms of female cancers. I said "no" - I believed it to be on diagnosis of any of the 7 female cancers, as per the advert and the literature.

I asked him what was meant by "intrusive" cancer which he could not answer. I then said I would have to make further enquiries as I also did not know what this meant.

I called various organisations, including the NHS, who all said that invasive cancers were the really serious ones which would require extensive medical intervention (my monther had had breast cancer and had a lump removed and radio therapy - this would NOT be considered invasive). I was still not sure about it and so called American Life and asked for more info.

Basically, from that phone call onwards, they could not dump me as a customer quickly enough! I received all my premiums back but never any explanation about why their TV adverts were so misleading. I believe that, due to the intial call asking if I understood the policy, there must have been many people confused and they were simply covering their backsides.

I feel relieved to be out of it but anyone still in the plan, or thinking about it, I would strongly recommend that you find out 100% how ill you have to be before the plan pays out - it was my understanding that I would have to be dying which was not the point of the policy. I wanted a payout to help me "recover" from cancer, not to pay my funeral expenses.
