Well Woman Plus Insurance - American Life

Evening all.
Sorry if this is a duplicate post, can't find any other threads for this subject...
Have noticed the advert on the TV (hosted by Gaby Roslin) for the Well Woman Plus life insurance policy from American Life.
It looks very appealing - will pay out on the diagnosis of any female cancer; a lump sum and also money for days in hospital and a monthly amount. Also, if you do not claim on the policy in the first 15 years, you can have your money back.
It looks almost too good to be true but I can't find a website for further information. Don't want to phone and give them my details in case I can't get rid of them.
Has anyone any knowledge of this company / policy?
Could you recommend it? If not, why not.
Any advice gratefully received,
Twinkle.

It's only my opinion, but I don't think that insurance that only pays out for certain illnesses is worth it.
I would rather get a policy that protects me if I can't work (for whatever health related illness).
You say it pays all your money bakc if you don't claim.
Be aware that this is almost certainly without interest and the money will have devalued over 15 years due to inflation.
So don't go thinking that it's "free" because it isn't.

American Life plans tend to be different to traditional plans. I cannot say I have an extensive knowledge of their plan range but those that I have seen are usually quite poor as they have limitations and exclusions which rule out many events.
I would rather have a full Critical Illness policy than a budget or restricted one (regardless of the provider as many providers have a cut down version)I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
I worked on the well woman plus plan for quite a long time what its about is it covers female cancers, the plan runs alongside other policies most plans just pay morgage or private treatment which is great but theres so much more you would want to spend your money on lets face it we have a nhs which is free if the policy holder has kids they may put money towards them and their future, go on a holiday etc the idea is that the customer doesnt need a company telling them how to spen their money when they have full controll themselves. Its now 20 years and they get money back or on their 65th birthday which ever comes 1st. Its a full return of premiums which they've paid which is better than most companies that give nothing or a little back. As for inflation that hasnt happened all the time ive known about however if it did then customerwould know 30 days in advance and still get all the money back anyway so they dont lose a penny0

Hi killafingaz.
As you have worked with this company before I wonder if you could answer me a query.
I was diagnosed with cervical cancer last year. I had my cervix removed and now have the all clear. I know that if I wanted to take out a well woman policy I have to be clear for 3 years. If it came back in the future would I be exempt from claiming for cervical cancer as Iv'e previously had it or not? Also as I have no children at present, just hubby, would my payout be different to a woman with a family?
Thanks shelly:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
I just had an unsolicited phone call (at work), trying to sign me up for their policy. The guy on the other end of the phone seemed surprised that I wasn't interested.0

There is a cold calling scam on this front:

I also received one of these telephone calls last week but, luckily, refused to give any personal information over the telephone and instead asked for their web address so that I could read their terms and conditions etc.
As I lost my mother to breast cancer this policy does look quite appealing. I am struggling to find a life insurance company that will include critical illness in my policy because of my family history.
I am considering applying for a stand-alone life insurance policy plus this Well Woman insurance.
As a novice to all of this I would be greatful for any opinions or advice.Looking for ways to save

Hi Shelly
I am a Sales Manager for American Life and having been selling the policy to women for the last 2 years. and the answer to your question is once you have been given the all clear from any of the 7 female cancers for 3 yeas you are covered once you provide proof from the medical profession.
with regards to pay out on diagnoses they are excatly the same you can get upto £72,000.00 on a level 5 cover age depending when you take out the plan. you are entitled to get a women with no chldren income diganoses, hospitalisation benefit, an element of death benfit, lump sum diagnoses benefit. and if you do have children by other means i.e adoption for example then children in the family benefit also. other than that nothing changes. but if you dont claim at all after 20 years in to the plan or when you hit 65 you will get a 100% tax free refund of all the premiums to have paid in to plan. I hope this anwers your question0 -

Thanks so much for your reply. Can you just clarify for me, once I'm clear of my cervical cancer for 3 years can I claim if it comes back or will I be exempt from claiming for that particular cancer again?
Thanks:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0
