I got annoyed today when the Fiat website wanted my personal details before it would let me download a brochure. I'm looking to buy a car off them but I'm not telling them anything before I've even looked at a pic of it!I would if I could but I can't so I won't!0

Whilst i am pretty sure all my lights worked and the tread on my tyres were legal - i didn;t want to take the chance. Was definitely a case of "answer these questions or else"
Surely that must be illegal as they have no reasonable grounds to do so?3.78 kWp PV SolarEdge with iBoost South facing.

Like doing online surveys Ivan?
Although I do them myself, I'm getting increasingly uncomfortable with some. If I carry on like this they'll soon know more about me than I do!0 -

Sarahg1969's posting raises an interesting point. You should never give out personal information to someone claiming to be from your bank unless YOU have instigated the call ... they could be anyone. This has only happened to me once and, after ascertaining that it was not a sales call, I asked for a number to call them back on (unfortunately it was not a freephone number ... it was an 0845 ... but I thought it was a small price to pay for my peace of mind) - basically they wanted to check a couple of strange credit card transactions that had been flagged on their system (they were OK ... but a big thanks to my bank for taking the time to check)

Banks need to realise they are going to have to find a way of assuring mutual security when they call a customer. They must give a little bit, and be less stubborn than just saying "I'm sorry, we can't give out that information", otherwise an increasing number of (sensible) people (just following guidleines regarding identity theft) are not going to talk to them. I don't think they should have any problem answering a question like "how much did I recently spend in Sainsbury's on my card" or "who takes a direct debit on the 15th of each month" from a customer they have called.0

I just wanted to say that I read something earlier about pin number security. It advised that people be extra careful when they use a cash point or a chip and pin machine as people have been using mobile phones to video the numbers being put into the machines. I just wanted to make people aware of this, so if you see a person hanging around with a mobile aviod putting your number in until they are gone.0

Well, we keep getting calls from Tele2 and the likes (or whatever they're called) asking to speak to Miss C (my partners surname). So we decided to let them speak to her...
Bloke - Hi, can I speak to Miss C please.
OH - Sorry, but I'm Mr C. Can I ask why you are calling.
Bloke - No, I'm sorry but I need to speak to Miss C. Is she available?
OH - She's just woken up from a nap, can you tell me where you are calling from.
Bloke - Yes, I'm from ###. Is Miss C able to talk?
OH - Jessica, phone for you.
Bloke - Hello, Miss C, I am phoning to tell you about our amazing new package with ###. You can get really cheap calls etc etc.
Miss C - Hahahahahaha.
Bloke - Sorry I didn't catch what you said.
Miss C - Gababamamadada.
Bloke - I'm sorry but I think we have a bad line. Can I call you back at a more convenient time?
Miss C - Aaaaaargh!!!
Bloke - Err, hello??
Haha, next they'll be trying to sell our 8 month old a new conservatory!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:"I've fallen down a hole" - said in best Monty Python voice-over.0 -
Postcode surveys ! We have to do one around this time of year at work. Picture the scene :
A manic supermarket on a Saturday lunchtime, every checkout on and queues at each one. Finish scanning your customers shopping, take payment, but the till won't let you complete until you put in a postcode. Well, I found out how to override it !! , only to be told if I didn't do it, then we'd have to do it permanently. My solution ? Tap in my postcode !! Amazing how quickly you can do something when you're doing it over and over again.
My shop knows where most of its customers are coming from, and I hate invading on peoples privacy, and to do it when everybodys stressed and narky is stupid. I know a lot of my workmates are told to "mind their own business" or words to that effect, so I just don't put myself or the customers through it. Simple.July Grocery Challenge Budget £160

Sahara, if it is anything like some of the systems I have seen then you could be depriving your neighbours of money off vouchers. They will see your postcode as already spending loads of money therefore may target other areas with high value money off vouchers as an inducement. Alternatively they may reward your postcode with additional money off vouchers ... which could be seen as fraud on your part.
I am surpirsed at anyone that designs a system such as the one that you describe so that the postcode MUST be entered - shoddy development work.
