I give up - there's no hope

Hello,
Thank-you all so much for your support, yes I'm welled up too. I'm very emotional at the moment and scared to death
OH has been trying to get work for months, he's even prepared to work away and sleep in the car if he needs to, he has never been out of work before even tho he has been diagnosed with suspected emphesemia (sp) as he has been a plasterer all his life, the dust has taken it's toll on his lungs, but he still works. He gets the odd little job now and again, but a couple of days work over a period of months doesn't pay the bills and mortgage.
I have also always worked, then I look around me and we have nothing. I bought my car 3 years ago for £500 and OH bought his for £350, the house needs maintenance work and redecoration quite badly, the only thing we do have worth anything is a 40" flat screen t.v, not alot to show for years of working our fingers to the bone is it?
I've filled out an SOA on the cccs board, I have a reference number and I'm going to give them a call, it will be my last hope
I cannot thank-you all enough for your kind words of support at this very difficult time xx0 -
Hey WAL, good to hear from you.
Lets hope now we can collectively start to make you feel better, supported, advised and most importantly that you are not alone. xxxDFW Nerd 267. DEBT FREE 11.06.08

thanks for posting WOl..sorry to hear about your OH - I think health matters are overlooked sometimes in the scheme of things and I wish you both well.

Hi Wot a life,
Just a couple of questions that might not be included in your SOA:- Is staying in your house a priority, or do you have no objection to moving into a chaper property or rented accomodation?
- Are there any secured debts against the house, and if so how much?
- What is the level of your unsecured debt?
- Do you have sufficient income to cover the mortgage and essential expenditure?
- Are you sure you're claiming all the benefits you're entitled to?
- Do you have any children living with you, or recently moved out?
I'll post this on your other Thread in case you don't see it here. It would be a good idea to start a new Thread on either the DFW or Bankruptcy Board.
Best regards

There is ALWAYS something you can do. The thing that's frustrating you is not knowing what to do, which is why it would be helpful for you to speak to one of the debt charities (such as the CCCS).The best way to save money is not to spend it.:cheesy: "Smile first thing in the morning. Hi Richard and thanks for posting, in answer to your questions,
> We would like to stay here as the rental of properties in our area are much the same as our mortgage.
> There is one charging order against the house for £2,100 - there are no additional secured loans on the property
> The unsecured debt is 40k
>We have JUST enough income to secure our basic living essentials and mortgage with No surplus at all
> We have tried to claim Job Seekers allowance, incapacity benefit, disability benefit ( for my OH ) We are in reciept of WT credit and CT credit at £720 per month and we have a council tax rebate because of low income
>We still have all of the children at home, still in full time education aged 15, 18 and 10[EMAIL="abuse@moneysavingexpert.com?subject=Reporting post http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=11354383"]

Hi Wal.
Please don't give up, you can gain so much advice and support from this site. There are so many people already behind you ready to offer help and assistance but in order to do this effectively you really must post your SOA. Please use the following link to do this, either on this thread or start a new one in DFW.
http://www.makesenseofcards.com/soacalc.html
There is plenty of help available here but you have to help us to help you.
Please stick with us and let us at least try to help you more constructively as at the moment all we can offer really is tea and sympathy and whilst that may help you mentally it's not going to sort your finances out.
Please keep posting.

P.S. you should remember too that the help and advice you get will probably be different on the different boards you post on afterall, going bankrupt is different to wanting to be debt free. If you want to bite the bullet and try to remain solvent and avoid bankruptcy then DFW is the board for you.
Hope this helps

Hi Poo,
I would never sugest somebody should declare bankruptcy if there's another solution to a debt problem. However, there are times when any other remedy is a practical impossibility.
For a long time I wouldn't even acknowledge bankruptcy as an alternative, whereas my O.H insisted that any other outcome was unworkable; with the benefit of some painful hindsight, she was right.

Hi wot a life
I don't post too often but I thought I'd say that I'm so glad you came back, I read/lurk/hang out/stalk a variety of boards, in particular the old style and the freebies. Martin's board has saved (and made me) a surprising amount of money but this part of the board is my favourite. Some of the people here are amazing  I know you'll have a lot to do in the next few days but if you have time then please start reading some of the diaries on here - some people have made nothing short of miraculous changes to their lives.
