There is encouraging news, though - it looks like you still have time to transfer funds from ICICI:

Sometimes this forum is indispensable. I just wanted to thank you again for the above info which I would have overlooked, and which the Hellifax clerk actually contradicted. I went back today and set up a Guaranteed Saver account with a 'promise' to transfer £5,000 within 14 days. And Now I qualify for the 12% on my RS as well as get a decent 6.25% fixed rate on my £5,000. I wasted a second afternoon by having to go back into town, but got to express my displeasure to the manager and potentially earned an extra £100 in interest, so not a bad trade-off really.

I've just 'phoned them and was told that the Gtd Saver a/c is actually identical to the Gtd Saver Reward a/c in every way except the former comes with a cash card to allow multiple withdrawals. Apparently on their internal system they are the SAME account, and the way to make a Gtd Saver pay 6.25% is to simply not make more than 1 withdrawal and to keep a >£5K balance. (Presumably the converse is true: If you make multiple withdrawals from a Gtd Saver Reward, it becomes a plain Gtd Saver?).
I'm still a bit suspicious, though, as my online account view only shows 5%... but I suppose all I can do now is keep my fingers crossed.
I think you are right to be suspicious. If you just keep your fingers crossed, you're likely to have to sort it out after the 5% interest is paid in a year's time!
Like some others here, I applied for a Guaranteed Saver Reward (no cash card) (by phone). My account shows online at 6.25%, even though Halifax have sent a cash card (that I did not request).
Even if the account is effectively the same on their systems, as they suggest, and varies only based on the number of withdrawals, there must be something different on the admin side for customers such as myself to be seeing the 6.25% on an account (where a cash card has been sent unrequested) and others to be seeing 5.00% on what is supposed to be the same account and where a cash card has also been sent.
In your position, I would be querying this sooner rather than later.Up Tipp!0 -
Hi.
I opened my regular saver online last night. It was quite late, around 11pm but defintely before midnight. I set up a standing order to go from my current account into my saver on the 17th (i.e. today). I've checked the standing orders in my current account and it is there and says that the next payment date is 17/07.
But the money has't gone into my saver yet. I could be wrong, but I thought standing orders went through at midnight of the day the order was due, so I thought it would have gone through last night.
Will it go through at midnight tonight? Or did I set up the standing order at too short notice? If I change the standing order date to the 18th will that go through this month? Obviously I need to get this account funded quick!
Please help.

This has probably been covered already - if so, apologies.
My man in the Halifax today suggested that I could open with a £500 cheque (done) and also pay in a £500 S/O before the end of the month.
Is this correct? If so it looks like a great way to realise another £39 net interest!
Has anyone actually done this without an adverse reaction from Halifax?
I don't want to fall foul of regulations as Halifax are sticklers for closing their regular saver accounts on the first evidence of any breach of rules.
BTW they were very nice, perhaps because I have other Halifax accounts so ID was less of a problem & I also had the paperwork from Head Office re the account opening. I had said over the 'phone that I wanted to sign up & pay in my first cheque in one branch, but another branch was happy to oblige in order to accommodate my changed arrangements.0 -
Hi,
Just a few quick questions. I opened my RS account over the phone on Tuesday and got the account details. I set up my first payment for Friday to be paid by Fast Payment so should reach Halifax the same day.
I don't know anything about Fast Payments as I haven't used them before but I would double check that the Regular Saver account can receive them. If it can't your payment is going to be too late. It would be worth finding this out tonight so that you've still got time to cancel the FP and pay in cash at a branch tomorrow.I would like to be able to view the account on my Halifax online banking but it hasn't appeared yet. I tried to add the details of the account online but it says the details does not exist! So I'm a little concerned that my money is going to disappear into an non-existant account on Friday ... ?
How long does an account normally take to be added and to become viewable on Halifax online banking? Does the account have to be activated at a branch first before it can be viewed online and before payments can be paid into it?
I didn't have any Halifax accounts before I opened my Regular Saver. They sent me a letter in the post a few days later with my login Id and both my Regular Saver and nominated account were setup.0 -

Have you managed to get any money into the account to set it up?
I had the same problem so I called into my local branch today and they did everything, including setting up the SO, in a few minutes.
Now it`s all up and running and can be viewed online.
That's the problem I am having at the moment.
I have set up a standing order that should be paid in tomorrow. I will check it tomorrow morning & if it isn't there I will pop into my local branch to get it sorted out.
Cheers for the help :T0 -

ok the lowdown on the Guaranteed saver and guaranteed saver reward
Any guaranteed saver opening between 9/6/08 and 10/8/08 will automatically get be called Guaranteed saver Reward - they are the same account but offer a reward of higher rate if 1 withdrawal for accounts only opened and funded within those dates.
The account does have a card as the account is applied in exactly the same way, and the reward is purely for accounts opened during them dates.
In branch we select exactly the same account to apply for, there is not a different system for the reward.0 -
