I am an existing Halifax customer, but I don't have an old regular saver. What I do have is a current account and some ISAs, and online banking. So, even if I register online for the new ten per cent saver, do i STILL have to await written confirmation in the post to activate the account, as u mention? thanks :)

I opened my a/c by phone and I was sent a form to sign to activated my a/c. However, they gave me my new roll no. on the phone so I was able to add it to my a/c list and to set up my standing order.

The 2% bonus is paid if you have £5000 in any account with HBOS if not you get 10%, .............

Is this £5000 in any account or only nominated accounts like Guaranteed saver and some others they have mentioned in T & Cs?.

I and OH hav 2 Fixed ISAs each with halifax, so would that satisy the £5000 requirement? that would be gr8 as we get 6.1% taxfree there and another 12% on a regular saver on £500p.m. would be gr8!!!!.:rotfl:

The ISAs are not 'qualifying accounts'.

I opened my account online and as I have a c/a and Web Saver already with BOS my account appeared immediately and the standing order was setup. However am I correct in saying that you can add more to the account in a month as well as the monthly amount as long as it does not total more than £500?

If so how do I transfer money from other sources such as my c/a or Web Saver outwith the regular S/O?

You can transfer in to the account from any other account using the account number and sort code as per any other money transfer.

My £5K is now showing in the Guaranteed Saver, so the transfer by Halifax was successful. So I should now be getting 6.25% on this for the year, and 12% on my Regular Savings.

So transferring from say my Web Saver won't affect the 10% interest if it's not considered as a standing order?

    Hi Guys,

I've opened the regular saver with Halifax. Didn't get any form to sign? and don't have anyother accounts with them? Unless having a credit card with them counts? So hope account is open?

Anyway, I'm just wondering if its worth opening the guaranteed saver account that pays 6.25% that people have mentioned, to get the 12% on my savings. I intend to save the full £500 a month and I have £3600 (which is in an isa with HSBC - 6.0% interest which keeps going up and down). Would it be better to add the extra £1400 to this and deposit it in the guaranteed saver to get the 12%?

    Cheers guys for any advice!

Was planning to open the RS online along with the Guaranteed Saver, however, can anyone clarify for me...

When trying to sign up it says:

    You are wishing to use a new or existing Halifax Guaranteed Saver or Bank of Scotland Instant Access Savings Account as your nominated account;
Please call 0845 601 8150 or speak to a colleague in branch to complete your application.

Has anyone managed to open and 'link' both accounts online or do I really need to open the accounts over the phone? (Obviously I'd rather not!)

You can get Halifax to call you back if you'd rather not pay 0845 call charges, that's what I did.
