Have Halifax done this before? I have a Regular Saver which I opened with them on 27th Nov 07. Stupidly, I haven't kept any record of the interest rate on this account. Can anyone tell me if I'm getting 7% or 10%? If the former, I guess I may as well close it and open a new one now.0

It is the former (7%) ..... the 10% / 12% one wasn't declared until 9th June 2008. And you have to specifically open the higher rate one - there's no conversion from the old. As you infer ... you have to junk the old one ..... and you will only get the Websaver rate (currently 4.36%) when you close the old one.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
OMG, just seen the TV Ad for this account. most annoying yet? :eek:0

Apparently it's an old advert with the interest rate on the banners changed. Can't say that I remember it the first time round but OH reckons it's an old one.Conjugating the verb 'to be":
-o I am humble -o You are attention seeking -o She is Nadine Dorries0 -
Only caught a glimpse of the 'new' one ..... but I think your OH is quite right - I've seen this one a couple of years ago.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0

It's not annoying it's stupid, basically the hidden message is "Halifax is a sort of Titanic and can sink at any moment, we warned you", and that confirms what some media are saying !! :TAll my life my mother told me the storm was coming (c) Terminator 30 -
how long does it take for this account to be opened when applying by phone?
i assumed it would be immediate but apparantly i've got to wait for some forms to sign??
i was given the roll number over the phone but it's not showing online and i'm unable to add the account to my portfolio:mad:
i would have applied online, in which case i expect it would have been opened immediately, but i had to phone because i already had a RS (@7%) which had to be closed first:rolleyes:
1st time i rang i got cut off without speaking to anyone.
2nd time got cut off half way through application, just at the point of setting up the SO.
3rd time i had to be put through to security to set-up a telephone PIN number (even though i phoned them in the past) before they could close my 7% RS......
what a palarver!!!!! :rotfl:0 -
You have to wait a day before you can add the account to your portfolio. Try again tomorrow morning.0

Well I've given up on this account - blood pressure can't take any more.
As per earlier post, opened account by phone, account showed up next day on line with my other Halifax Account. Went into branch with identification as requested and opening cheque. Account blocked until I had signed papers coming by post.
Returned today with signed paper and cheque. No problem - account open and accepted initial deposit.
Went to bank I hold current account with to arrange standing order, but Sort Code I'd been given on all correspondence and online account DID NOT EXIST. Phoned Halifax and after considerable time, mostly on hold, they confirmed that there was no such sort code and my account had been wrongly set up. Told that I have to call into branch again and close this account, withdraw the money and then open up a new one. NO WAY.
As another point of interest among papers I was sent was information booklet on this account and it seems to contradict various points discussed on this thread.
Re deposits, it states "one payment each month by standing order" and "each deposit must be a regular monthly payment by standing order". So it seems it's not possible to top-up monthly payments occasionally.
It also states "No standing orders from other Halifax savings accounts", so this would seem to rule out paying from Websaver, etc.
The booklet does list another account called "Halifax Monthly Saver" which does not have the above restrictions, so this is where the confusion may be coming from.0
