June 2008 Grocery Challenge

hi sian the green and welcome to the grocery challenge
its up to each individual what they include in their grocery money.....mine includes everything....groceries, toiletries, dog food, clothes, as i am on benefits and don't have any other money to account for stuff!! i started off at £70 a week to feed me, DD18 and DS15, and 3 dogs, but now i'm baking more, and the freezers are always practically full, i've just got it down to £55 a week, and putting the extra £15 i was spending in a sealed tin to go towards my daughter going to Uni in Sept
fortunately i don't drink or smoke, and if we fancy takeaway, i make a pizza or HM burgers. my only vice is chocolate
if you keep all your receipts for a month, then just try shaving a little bit off, that's how you'll get to reduce your costs. i do mine weekly, cos that's when i get my money, but a lot of peeps on here do it monthly
Good luck, and be warned....this thread is VERY addictive!!!0 -
Hello Sian, and welcome. I include everything, toiletries, household supplies, takeaways. The only thing not included is my dog food, which i buy 2 monthly frozen.
Just a thought regarding food storage, do you have enough space in your room for a small freezer, if so try freecycle.

It would be a great idea, only problem is I live in the attic of my house and earlier this year had a little mishap where one of my windy stairs fell in and I fell in the hole so am very careful about climbing them now...
I am going to be moving at the end of August so will have a bit more space I hope, plus am going to be living with friends this time so we will be cooking and eating together I hope.
Thanks for the advice guys, am excited to startGod is good, all the time

Hi all, I'd like to declare for June at £182.34, leased to have come in under budget despite a holiday grocery shop on Thursday night. Am hoping DD will pay for any extras like bread and milk while we are away, and have a separate holiday pot for meals out etc while away so that won't come out of my Juky budget.
Would like £200 again for July please as although I am coming in well under budget I do have a holiday at the end of July to cater for.0 -
Hi all
Love to Mrs Mc and a big thank tou to Angelnikki for taking the the task.

HI Guys,
have planned my mega month shop on monday but got tempted into Mr A's as read the 50p items posted on this thread yesterday. Was sooo proud of myself went in for only the stuff on offer and walked away when they were in my basket!!! Yay maybe I am learning after all!!
GOT SOME FUNNY LOOKS AT CHECKOUT! had bought 5 melons @ 50p each (I ripe and the rest very unripe for the next few weeks til my melon plants get goin) 5 x loafs of bread @ 50p each. Talk about MSE got them to slice them as they freeze better and got them to give me a huge wad of yeast to boot! Am off to make some chelsea buns for tea. feelin very pleased with self.
Mollymunchkin and other newbies - welcome nice to see you
Taplady - have you thought of asking for raincheck vouchers. These are given (only on request) at the customer services when they have an offer and have run out of stock. If you smile sweetly and ask for a raincheck voucher then usually give you a written voucher to get the item when its next in (this is often after the offer has run out) but you get it at the offer price. Not bad eh!?

Hi everyone!!
Had a terrible day at school yesterday. I believe in treating people decently yet this was the fourth time that a someone was really horrid and personal to me. Trouble is I am always gobsmacked and try to act professionally, esp around small children. Kind of wish I did speak my mind and stood up to her.
Off topic I know.... but I wanted to say how you've all cheered me up with how well you've done... (great work Mandy-Moo 1!)
Dink1 It feels great to be in control doesn't it. Thanks for all the support and help you give on this thread.
Off to Mr T.
Be back on later
