I think that I can make a good start now, I've only been on for a couple of weeks, there's still a lot for me to learn!
A few little codes I don't understand like £2 challenge, what's a snowball, amongst other things.
I've got my mortgage pig and have saved some of last month's shopping receipts to guide me.
Hi Barneysmom, and welcome to the challenge.

The £2 challenge is to put every £2 coin you get into a pot - some people seal them, and there are all kinds, but they are little 'preciouses' and you can save them up for whatever you want - some people bank at £50, £80, etc, or like me, save for a specific thing - it's up to you. - I'll put the link on here in a bit for the thread...... (goes away for a bit...)

Not sure about snowball, but I'm sure someone will let you know, also not sure about the mortgage pig - what is that for, just savings for your mortgage? see, no-one knows everything... :rotfl:

EDIT: Here's the link for the £2 savers challenge - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=356955 - Hope it helps

    Hiya all,

    Barneysmum,

I think snowball, or snowballing is when you have some debts ,start by paying off the highest interest one while paying others as normal, but each one you clear, you then add that monthly payment to the next highest interest and so on thus giving the snowballing effect until you have wiped them all out.

    Does that make sense folks;)

    mornin all

just updating my spends, and catching up on the posts

went to Mr T's last night armed with £23 worth of vouchers....only last week they took them all off my shopping and i only had to pay pence. this week , however, the cashier would only take 50% of the amount i'd spent, and would only take 3 coupons at a time,so i couldn't hand over all my coupons  so i made her reverse most of my shopping out, then asked her to put it thru in 4 separate transactions...needless to say she wasn't very happy, but i was determined to get rid of my coupons!! i'd planned on using them to stock up on dog food for the month, so at least it only cost me half what it should have done. i was just so annoyed cos every other time i've gone in, they've taken all my coupons without any problems. ah well, i won't be going to that cashier again!!

just about to put my BM on to make some chelsea buns, then bit later i'm gonna have another go at Mrs Mc's tortillas, so we can have them for tea

DS15's been up since 2.30am.....to go on a 36mile sponsored walk  they have to do it all in 1 day, so i'm expecting him home about 5 or 6 this evening. Poor kid's gonna have no feet left by the time he's finished! its to raise money for his rugby club. so anyway, he's gone off with loads of buns, twinks, mars bars and bananas!!

right, best get the washing hung out and get the BM on, then on with the rest of the housework

hope you all have a good one, and (((MrsMc))) if you get chance to read the thread, we're all thinking of you xx

    morning all!

went to our local Tesco to get some of their £1 butter but they'd run out:mad: (spreadable country life) will try again today on the way to work.
I've decide to declare today as I dont think I'll be buying anything else apart from the butter which will go towards Julys total.

Angelnikki - I've spent £278.94 out of my £290 budget so am well pleased:j I'm going to lower my budget slightly for next month to £285.

My new challenge starts July 1st .
    Do what you love :happyhear
  • Morning All

I've gone over budget this month :o by £10.06. Think I need to learn a lesson from not spending MOC unless I really need to shop although I bought lots of non perishable items that will help next month. It made the last couple of weeks a bit tough as I still had to buy fresh F&V, milk, bread and yogs. Still not too bad, not gonna beat myself up about it. Before GC days I could be spending anything from £250 to £300  . Think I've also suffered this month from not having a good whoopsie haul. Think I'll try my local asda on a monday night, that's when I got my last good haul ;) .

Angelnikki, that's so much for looking after this thread in MrsM's absence.

So, I'd like to declare £180.06 for June and set my July budget for £170.

Well done everyone even if you've gone over budget, just think of how much you used to spend :). Good luck to everyone in July.
  • morning all,

spent £13.64 in lidl last night and £5 was on beer for OH for during the Euro final tomorrow.

have a wedding to go to later so the money for drinks might come out of the budget, depends how we are going later in the month ;)

need no more food for this week and probably only fresh stuff next week, my cupboards are looking a bit toooooooooo full :)

Hey all, am very impressed at how thrifty some people can be, especially with families to feed. As I am planning on joining in for June I wondered if I could ask a couple of questions...
Do you only include food or do you include things like toiletries and household supplies?
If you eat out or have takeaway do you add that all in?
As I am in a shared house and we don't cook or share food storage space is at a premium so unfortunately can't buy all the offers I would like to though I think there must have been an offer on Kung Po sauce at some point having looked at the back of my cupboard... Look forward to picking up more tips from everyone!
