Well, I have dusted off my breadmaker and got a loaf in there now, smelling lovely :D It's Lidl bread flour, not used it before so if this turns out OK, I'll go back and stock up.

Also got most of the week's shopping in Lidl when I popped down there at lunchtime - must go back there more often. I got back to the office and one of my colleagues gave me a really pitying look and asked what was wrong, why did I have to shop at Lidl?? Think she thinks I'm destitute or something :rotfl: Put her straight tho - told her it's cos I've got better things to do with my money than line the fat cat pockets of Mr T, Mr S, Mr A etc!

Had a lovely tea last night - chicken supreme made with the leftovers from our roast chicken on Sunday. That was a regular Monday night tea when I was a kid and definitely my favourite leftovers meal. Just been speaking to my Mum on the phone and she wants me to make it for her when she comes down to visit next week - she never does it now cos my Dad can't stand it!

No idea if Lidls sell dried yeast, tbh. But Messrs A, S, M & T all do! About 50p for 6-8 sachets - and, yes, there is a recipe on the sachet too, as jackk pointed out :-)

Fresh yeast - you need one of the big 4 smkts with an instore bakery - smile sweetly at the person behind the bakery bit and ask for some fresh yeast and more often than not you'll get a lump (depending on the individual store's policy) - enough for 3-4 loaves, usually. And for free too :money:

    Hi Guy's,
just to let you know, Tesco's also sell Allinsons dried yeast in a small tin with a plastic lid (125g) for 99p - works out cheaper than the sachets and is easier to keep sealed and weigh out.
(don't know if any of the others sell it, I presume they will, might be worth a look!)

We can only use either velvet or charmin toilet roll (yes-I am allerigic to others, think it may be the bleech!) went in Savers today and they still have pure white Velvet,4+ 2 free, £1.69,so £3.38 for 12-not bad at all. The offer runs until the packs run out. I also got galaxy belgian hot chocolate from the 99p store-my son absolutely loves that but I refuse to pay the price in Mr T or Mr S!
Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!

I am going to buy a bread maker in August after paid holiday. Is there any point trying to bake bread without one in meantime. i am bit rubbish in kitchen. Or would I be better just waiting till I get a bread maker and all peeps with one which is best to buy.

Def worth a go before august, I posted a really easy recipe on this post while back-no kneeding etc involved, really is foolproof-can be used to make rolls too. There are also lots of great bread recipes on here which are def worth a go. enjoy

  • :hello: Morning everyone,

Just a quick note. Don’t know if anybody else buys the cooking bacon packs from Mr M ( the pack with all the mixed up bits – great for cooking), anyway – bought some today and it is marked at £1.18 for 500g but noticed that some packs seemed heavier than others. Thought at first that some were underweight but on checking – using the fruit and veg scales – the lighter ones were 500g but there were lots that were over 700g and all marked up at the 500g weight with the £1.18 price – may be a one off but worth checking if you do plan buying some.

Will update my signature later – not looking quite so good now!!

    Happy saving ;)
Ive found this true of many items in many shops. The weight stated is the minimum-they can go over but not under. good on you for weighing them!

  • Mrs M Might seem a daft question why do you need lidl bread bought over from here when you have lidl in germany - don't they sell it? I assumed they were all the same!

I had a reasonable day shopping on monday spent too much as had to buy new phone  but I do have to return a pair of OH shoes that were too big so may not be so bad. Can't lay my hands on the receipts so will update signature later. Because I have been using my Mr M moc (£5 off if you spend £30)I now have enough of OH beer to last until next april:rotfl:
Tesco had grapes on offer £1 for a 500g punnet making them £2 a kilo Yet down the aisle they were selling loose grapes £3.48 a kilo:eek:

Thanks for all the great recipes ideas at the moment Added to my list of must dos Although why is it when dd and OH look at them they choose the sweet recipes as opposed to the savoury ones!!!!!
Thanks to MSE savings we got to go to Disneyworld Florida.

    Evening all

Chocolate teddy... I know..I sound mad-but LIDL sell some things only in the UK stores etc..my bloomin bread flour being one of them  . most German bread flours have the yeast allready in there and i like fresh yeast..so when i use dinkle flour etc for bread i still use the same amount of fresh yeast. I can get tesco own or hovis flour in the NAFFI but the tesco own is over £1 a bag:rolleyes: .....still cheaper than buying bread (which i haven't done for as long as i can remember) but if that lovely man can drag me the stuff i like from LIDL over its sooooo much cheaper:T

oooh forgot to say earlier that my asparagus peas are just starting to bud and my melons are flowering :j

Right bed time for me...after 7 whole days of NO SPENDS :T and im not spending anything tomorrow either :A :rotfl:
    night all :D
