I've made something similar for a long time - but with philly type cheese instead of the creme fraiche - that's not nice warmed up either - but is fab cold for lunch or served as pasta salad with something else (particularly if you leave out the meat for that)
I make mine with roasted veg - peppers, red onion, courgettes - what needs using up usually! I cook pasta, add some philly type cheese thinned with pasta water to get the right consistency and then stir in the roasted veg and cooked meat if using (shredded leftover roast chicken works well, as does chopped cooked bacon) Yum yum yum!!! I always make heaps and have it for lunches for several days:D

Hi Guys,

I know that this makes next weeks target unrealistic. (50p -£1)but If I am very good it wont be by much and am trying not to be hard on self. This month did include alcohol so did really well.
Am pleased that uniform however does not come from the gc budget, but things tight this month! Felt proud that I had budgetted in for a bbq this month and today is now the weather to have it. Now where was that last bottle of wine???????

Do you have a good basic recipe- foolproof for idiots!I am going to have a go this week. :T
Lidl's Bread flour or ordinary flour- sorry to be so dense!:o
Hi Feline!
Lidl's bread flour, most definitely:D About 48p for 1.5kg.
Mrs Mc has posted her recipe on here somewhere - seems to be working well for people - but not me when I tried it :-(((
I use:
260ml warm-hot water (ish)
2 tsp of sachet yeast or fresh if you can get it - about 10-12 gm
1/2 tsp sugar
2 tesp salt
1 1/2 tbsp fat (stork or olive oil)
460gm strong bread flour
Sift the flour, salt, yeast and sugar into a bowl, make a well in the centre of the mixture, then add the water. Mix to a dough, starting off with a wooden spoon and using your hands at the end to get all the little bits worked in. (add a drop more water if too dry here)
Put dough on worktop and knead for 5-10 mins (go for 10 at first) until springy and elastic and sort-of-shiny to look at. Put back in bowl, cover with oiled clingfilm or a damp teatowel (if bowl big enough) and leave to roughly double in size. (app 2 hours at room temp, less if in warm place)
Then knock the air out - literally take it out of bowl and knead it again for 2-5 mis. Then put in an oiled loaf tin and put in a tented bag (so dough doesn't touch) for about an hour, when the dough should have risen just above top of tin.
Bake at around 190 degrees for 30 mins. tip out of tin and knock on the bottom - will sound hollow if cooked - if it isn't put back in again for 5 mins.
You can also do this with one prove - when you first leave it to rise, out it in the tin at that point.
HM bread is a bit trial and error adjusting the recipe/ temp & cook times until you find something you're happy with - and even then you can occasionally get a duff one:(
There are loads of recipes online too - JAmie., delia and several others.
Have fun trying - if it is really duff use it for toast only (slice and freeze) or if REALLY duff then for breadcrumbs :rotfl:

Will be having beef casserole with roasties and veggies tonight with a choice of either lemon curd, jam or treacle sponge for dessert. ( I do 1 pint basins- 2 portions, so easy to please all choices). My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
So we’re empty nesters.

Skintscotslass - just occurred to me on re-reading your post, do you have any groceries you could cook for your parents with? That would be a way of saying 'thanks' and also using stuff up. The rest I would take to theirs in a labelled box and just use what you can
Yes and no! My parents are going to Australia with DD on Sunday for 6 weeks. So it's just me for that time. There will be a 2 week crossover, when I'm planning to do the cooking. Hmmm, I think I'll take it all over there. Just wasnt planning on this when stock piling all my tins and toilet roll etc0 -
