    hi fertyskids

a really nice veggie pasta is one of the original sainsbury's recipes from their ad campaign in the 90's.

you need pasta penne (i do about two handfuls per person)
    a (value) mozzerella ball
    a tin of value toms
some basil (fresh is best, but dried works fine)
some parmesan (expensive i know - have used strong cheddar in it's place)
    a slurp of olive oil

heat the oil in a saucepan
add toms and basil and cook (season too)
    cook pasta in separate pan
when the pasta is cooked, pop it in an ovenproof dish
    mix in diced mozza
    pour over tomato mixture
parmesan or cheddar on top and in the oven (at about 200°C) for 15 mins
hits the spot every time and isn't bad cold either!

is a very quick supper and can easily be stretched!!

    PO xx

    mornin all

re buying enough chocolate for the month ;) i buy enough so that me and DS15 can have 1 bar a day when its on offer at Mr A's and its well hidden in me bedroom so that not even the dogs can find it!! i used to eat about 4 or 5 bars every night, but now i've passed 40 i'm frightened of putting weight on so i'm dead strict with myself, and only allow myself 1 bar a day....thats the theory anyway ;) but i've just taken up x-stitching again so that makes it easier cos i don't want to get it all chocolatey!! :rotfl:

fertyskids if your OH doesnt like mushrooms, have you got a food processor? i whizz them in that then when you mix it into the mince you can't even see them :D i always do this cos it makes the mince go further!!

hoping i only need some toothpaste from wilkos today ( lol...that sounds bad, talking about eating loadsa chocolate earlier & now i need toothpaste!!)

am at the solicitors this afternoon, to try and sort out this thing with the benefits people, saying i've been getting maintenance when i've never had a penny. hopefully she can sort it for me, cos its really stressing me out

anyway, hope you all have a good day and don't need to spend much xx
  • Morning All :j

Had a very exciting afternoon yesterday choosing and ordering a fruit and veg box delivery for Friday-- hurrah!:j This means no more heavy carrying for me and hopefully less waste as I selected one that had items I knew we would use- I thought that it was worth a try to see if it helps- also on the weeks we don't need anything else I won't need to go near the shops! Huge bonus as I am nearly always tempted to get 'stuff' while I am there-- I am not yet as strong as some of you on here!:o

Need to source a cat food order now and all the heavy stuff will be out of the way! :D

Hope everyone is good today and that the sun is shining everywhere and that we all have a brilliant brilliant day (((hugs)))

hi another newbie here! its the first asda shop today since deciding to overhaul my shopping habits!

gone through loads of the recipies here, but alot seem to contain things i dont have..... y'know all those weird things like flour, caster sugar, mixed herbs, cinamon...... :rotfl:
im preparing to spend a little more today stocking up on stuff like that........

thinking about it though i reckon most of my money goes out on lunchbox things. does anyone have any cheap lunchbox ideas- for kids 5,6 & 9? they pretty much eat anything.
and think the fella may have to join in too instead of spending out on subways and maccy d's. guess i could do him some pasta?

    two more questions :o ;

how come you're all talking about hm bread? how cheap is it to make?

what can i do with 10 large sweet potatoes?!

    thanx :D

Cheated a bit yesterday & got 2 hot chickens from MrM..the £3:49 ones are 2-4-£5 at the mo, & altho I did wonder about the extravagance, figured that it would cost me to cook fresh ones anyway:confused: Plus it meant I only had to bung a bit of pasta & frozen veg into a pan to have a hot meal ready in half hour of getting home:p

Me muvva & I had an attack of the nibbles too & boughtjust one pack of popcorn SIZE=1]69p or 2-4-£1[/SIZE& it got me wondering if you good peeps had any easy recipes for making the various coatings. I don't mind it plain or with a splish of salt, but it would be fun to try the caramel etc.

When you said you had bacon Fertyskids, do you mean rashers or joint?
The first can be grilled or fried & served with:-
egg, chips & beans +/- sausage
grated cheese, beans, mushrooms, jacket spud
burger, egg, toms, mush as a poor man's mixed grill
or cut into shreds for a quiche/pasta

Add it to liver/chicken to make a casserole, or roll up & tie with string & boil as you would a bacon joint & serve with mash or boiled spuds.

    A bacon joint can be:-
sliced raw to make "gammon" steaks to serve with egg/ pineapple
    boiled & used for cold meat & mash/chips/ham sandwiches/salad
    roasted

Hope I've helped someone for a change, instead of asking for assistance:p

Bacon...how can i make a meal from that?
hi im new here too! i was trying to use up whatever was left last night before my first asda challenge today.

i had a pack of bacon, cassorole mix, loads of leeks, mushrooms and an onion.
i fried of the bacon (roughly chopped) added the cassorole mix and water plus chopped veg. added more water than you're meant to cos it didnt cover all the veg, but then chucked in some gravy granules to thicken it up again. in the oven for 30 mins.
then i really pushed the boat out and made some dumplings:rotfl: back in oven for 20 mins.

not very adventurous but tasted good, and i guess you could use any veg you wanted, i just used that cos its what i had left.

i know the cassorole mix isnt very mse but i dont know how to make your own............... :o
probably something to do with an oxo cube?!:D

    Morning all

A whole week of NSDs now under my belt  _party_ ....wooohooo... ok ok im easily pleased and get over excited at the smallest thing:p

Have a loaf of bread dough rising in the bowl..will wang it in the oven this evening when it has cooled down
ooohhhh and im so excited (again) as hubby happened to mention that one of the guys is going back to the UK in a couple of weeks to take his son to look at boarding schools..so -being a cheeky moo i have got him [STRIKE]asking[/STRIKE] nee...begging him to pick me up shed loads of LIDL bread flour -I have opened my last bag  so will have to resort to buying tesco flour from the NAFFI :eek:or play at trial and error with the german flour ..so fingers crossed that he can do this for me... have offered bribery of cakes, bread etc;)

Had loads of salad leaves out of the garden again..and with the 4 or 5 days of rain we have had and no fierce sun..everything has gone into overdrive :T

Dinner tonight is going to be chicken pasta salad and then i can get the carcass made into chicken n sweetcorn soup for hubbies dinner/supper tomorrow night after his 2 rounds of golf... its his fave soup

Hubby also announced yesterday that he is going to start biking to work..bout time too... it only take me about 20 mins to dawdle to the camp... on a bike if it takes him over 10 mins i will be amazed (well on the way there...as its all down hill:p )... so the car is just going to be used for golfing and an occasional trip to LIDL to stock up on water... it will save him quite a bit as the silly little journeys to and from work are what cost the most.

right im back off to my x stitch... have a great day everyone:D

Well I made some BM rolls yesterday- timed it so they were at the cooking stage while dinner was cooking, sausage rolls and beans and chips. Much better than last time- added slightly less yeast and the dough rose more while in machine and then the actual rolls rose more too !??!!! Also machine said the quantities I used would make 12, but last time the 12 were quite wee (even though the were left to rise before cooking), so I made 7 bigger ones. Made with 2 parts Lidl white flour and 1 part local beremeal. Still felt a bit ill last night but managed to eat one with marg on....mmmmm Hubby taking one for his break at work and we will each have one with yesterdays broth for lunch. Dinner is cottage pie, cauli cheese left over from mon and some leftover beans from last night. DS has some cott pie of his own too. Might need to get some bits for DS's cake (like a candle shaped like a 1!) although if tummy still dodgy not sure if I fancy a trip out to town _pale_ Raining here too, still that will help the veggies too as they like rain as well as sun lol Good job!
