Welcome Newbies :hello: (this is my first month too!).

Went shopping Saturday and spent a whopping £72! (updated sig)

But, we think we will only need one other big shop before the end of the month, which means (fingers crossed) we should be under budget. Time will tell .................

See there are more lovely recipes to try..........homemade lemonade thats a goody!.......

    Hi everyone,
Thankyou so much ive taken ion some of your ideas. ive managed to find four meals in the freezer.

Roast turkey tonight ...got loads of meat over as im veggie only hubby, teenage son and daughter eat it. Normally i would chuck some veg with it and blend it for the baby. Has anyone got any other ideas?

Bacon...how can i make a meal from that?

Sausages ...for sausage and mash with veg.

A shop brought pie i got reduced ages ago and froze with pots and veg

Good old spag bol.. i use veggie mince 1/2 a packet per meal. i add 2 tins tomatoes and half a jar of sauce. but im looking for new ideas for this one.. especially with more veg.

I'm not sure what i will eat when the others have meat, 3 nights i think. i do tend to get very lazy and eat a sandwich or toast. again has anyone got any really quick easy veggie meal ideas. ive got eggs in and veggie mince also some cheese potatoes etc.

Im very new to this i can cook following instructions on the packet but need to learn more now i think...

Please be gentle with receipes i'm nervous!!lol

    thanks again karen

I'm really annoyed with myself. I wasn't well for half of last week,so I wasn't able to carry on my meal plan and shopping,I did do a couple of little shops but have no idea how much as I can't find the receipts :( So I am starting again from here, this month won't be accurate and I am going to have to try the same budget again next month. I was doing so well up until then, and I do know for sure that I have spent less than usual as I haven't been shopping so often and have had lots of nsd, plus have worked totally off a list geared towards my meal plan.
I am posting to make sure I don't drop off the challenge!
Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!

Karen I'm veggie too and have found it easiest to try to get several meals a week meat free ones! My kids love quorn curry and quorn casserole, plus I do suasage casserole with vege or quorn sausages. If they have meat bolognese,I o myself a tomotoe sauce based pasta dish. Our absolute vaourite at the moment has got to be the broccoli and mushroom lasagne recipe I had off here-absolutely delicious and so cheap to make with value lasagne sheets. You could easily make this in individual containers and freeze it so you have a hassle free meal for yourself on the meat nights.

Got 1 less mouth to feed this week as ds1 is on a residential until Friday, he's the fussy one so should save loads this week!! will need fruit tomorrow but that's all. Had to get ds1 new school trousers last Friday and went to mrS for them. Very pleased with myself because I got the trousers and nothing else!!

    Hi Jude,
    My family love this:

    Banana and lemon drizzle cake

175g soft butter (& some for tin)
    175g caster sugar
    3 eggs
    300g SR flour
    2 level tsp baking powder
    2 ripe bananas, mashed
    grated zest of ½ lemon
    2 tbsp milk

    topping:
    juice of 1 lemon
    100g granulated sugar

Line base of 20cm deep cake tin, butter sides.
Mix together cake ingredients until smooth and pour into lined tin.
Bake in oven preheated to 180oC/160oC fan/ gas 5 for about 45-50 mins.
Leave to cool a little then remove from tin.
Make topping by mixing ingredients in a bowl.
Pour over the warm cake and spread to the edges.

Freezes well iced or un-iced – I normally make 2 – one for now and one for the freezer.

action-smiley-033.gifThanks perrywinkle for this, made it today, it is totally gorgeousaction-smiley-033.gif

Well made my first attempt at home made bread today from recipe on this thread- the inside was still doughy after about 45 minutes and the outside was totally hard. I tried to cut through it with a bread knife and it was like sawing through a tree branch :( What did I do wrong?
However went on to make the Millies cookies. Was doubtful that the sticky mixture would become biscuits- but some magic happened and cookies appeared after about 12 minutes. I was amazed- took half a dozen round to my parent's house to show off! (OH is out fishing) No spend day today, as will tomorrow and wednesday as I'm out all day on field trips.

  • Didnt do much cooking on the weekend as Im trying to run down my freezer and use up some of it. Working more this week so wont get much time to cook. However, tonight Ive made a big jelly for the familly which is 2 jellies, some trifle sponge and a tin of fruit cocktail. Total cost approx 50p. The jellies are the value ones at 8p each in Asda or Tesco.
Preparing my lunch to take to work-
picked some of my salad leaves tonigiht,
half a tin of sweetcorn(had the other half for my tea.
I boiled some eggs-so I will take one with my salad-leave the others in the fridge for someone else.
I grilled some sausages-so I will take 2 of those-the rest in the fridge for someone else.
found one tomato and some cucumber in the fridge-must buy some more toms.
Thawed out some bread rolls-so thats me wellfed at lunchtime! Hubby and my grown kids can picnic on what Ive cooked for them.
Did a little bit of shopping on my way home from work today to save fuel.Coop have Mc Cain wedges on bogof so I got some of those. A whoopsied lettuce for 29p(iceberg)some ryvitas and a few other bits and pieces.Staying in lunchtime tomorrow with a book so im not tempted to go out spending. Getting some jeans in the sale for DH and DS19 for just £1 per pair! So I cannot go wrong-they are normally £12 per pair.Thats not my grocery budget though.Went over by about £5 last week but I will make up for it this week.
Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults
