Hi all, not a good day on the spends, got fish and chips for tea:o but its been one of those days, still battling the woodchip, took the bus to see my dad it had a faulty door so spent 20mins going nowhere waiting for a replacement to come along, wheel fell off the lawnmower and my allergies are going for gold, I need a tissue dispenser stuck under my nose! So I just gave up come teatime, promise to do better tomorrow, £14.25 for fish & chips for 3 has soon brought me to my senses, plus £7.50 for fathers day beer prezzie, so £21.75 off total today!

hey everyone, had fantastic day- just heard carpets in our house will be laid on wed so we should be able to move home by end of next week :-) (christmas lights on our tree blew christmas eve, causing fire which pretty much meant we lost everything- though we all got out ok which is most important - been living with dad since). Trying to decide what to do on gc front though, have £30 left till end of month but wondering if should stock cupboards with basics or just do this gradually over next few weeks/months? any suggestions?
Did anyone watch itv this eve? - man on show who raids supermarket bins for free food, couldn't believe what was being thrown out-not all was out of date just box damaged etc. don't think I am quite up to doing this yet but if prices keep rising who knows... :-)

Good morning everyone:D has anyone got a foolproof hm chicken pie recipe for me please as for Father's day am going to cook one, have the jusroll and condensed campbells soups and the chicken obviously:D but how to make it, no idea, thanks;)

    Hi Victory

Didn't see any replies to this, I make a chicken pie that just has a top crust - if I try one with pastry underneath they always go soggy.

I use left over chicken from a previous roast and mix it with gravy and mushrooms in a saucepan, once it is all nice and thick I put it in an 8" pie tin and then top with pastry. Brush with milk and put in oven 400degF, 200degC, Gas mark 6 for 25-30 mins - always turns out yummy.

I make my pastry using 8oz/200g plain flour, pinch of salt, 2oz/50g marg, 2oz/50g lard + cold water to mix. This makes enough 'tops' for 3 x 8" pies. As you have you own pastry you won't need to do this - but it does make a lovely crust.

I guess you could just mix your cooked chicken with enough Campbells soup to the right consistency and then add the pie top.

Good luck, hope your Dad enjoys it - I'm sure he will, no matter what. I know my Dad would have loved anything I cooked.

I seem to have lost the plot. I know I havent been spending massively, but I have forgotten to keep an eye on my spending. Will have to rack my brains to see what I have spent? I had a tesco delivery at the beginning of the challenge that was around £80. Off to hunt down the delivery slip if I can find it.. Then I will try and work from there

    Evening all!

Well I now only have £20 to last me to the end of the month, but to be honest I really think we can manage it. We have LOOOOADS in the cupboards and freezer, are well stocked with laundry/dishwasher stuff etc and part of the reason we have spent so much of the budget already is because we stocked up on pet foods that were on offer at beginning of month so really shouldn't have any major spends for the next couple of weeks and £10 per week should really be plenty for basically milk/butter/o.j. and the odd other thing I may need. Won't need bread coz I have plenty in for making my own, likewise for treats and think I might have a go at making my own yoghurt as I was reading a thread about it yesterday and it doesn't seem too difficult but should save us a fair bit:j .

Think I will meal plan for the next week tomorrow and then go and get anything we need over the weekend or on Monday and try to stay away from the shops for the rest of the week!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

  • Evening all.

Went to local supermarket today and they had loads of 'whoopsie' managed to get 5 days meat for two adults and had change from £6:T Some chicken that was £4.50 was reduced to £1.11:D . Also get a 15% discount as DD works there:T

I've used less than a third of my budget for this month and we're nearly half way through. This could be my best month ever:D

My parents gave me their bread maker and i set to it yesterday and made a loaf that Hovis would have been proud of. It looked ace and tasted pretty good too.

Food prices may be rising, but my shopping bill is decreasing, rapidly.

Have a great weekend everyone (regardless of the weather:rolleyes: ) x
