You wooda bin sssoooooo proud of me yesterday!

I walked round MrS TWICE & still came out with nowt! Not even the shweetees could tempt me:D I had one of my 'I fancy zummat but don't know what' heads on, so nothing grabbed me tastebuds:j

I also got back to the little shop where I'd bought two old fashioned net SIZE=1]carrier[/SIZEbags last month. They were £2:99 ea or 2-4-£5 & I'd been charged £5:99; luckily I'd kept the receipt so got me 99p back yesterday too:p

Some of the lettuce seeds were ceremonially cast into the grow bag & one of the offspring came home with half dozen tommy plants from a friend's mum, so busy busy busy:D

I am back and i have found the bakewell tart recipe but it says i need ground aldmonds, but i dont have any and dont want to buy any either as i want a NSD tomorrow and don't have much money to buy them with anyways, so was wondering if i could use something else instead of aldmonds or just miss the aldmonds out?

Can anyone answer the above for me?

  • i would have thought that the ground almonds are essential as the texture you get from them is as much a part of it as the flavour.
i'm going to have a google and i'll edit if i find an alternative for you, brb!

Where is cheapest place for milk in any form?quote]

My local Tesco was doing 2 x 4pint cartons of whole milk for £2.00 (saving 88p) if that helps.

    Evening all,
can i ask what is probably an obvious question, do you include takeaways in your budget? I understand for some that this is prob a swear word but we do like to have this for a treat once a week. do some of you include this in your shopping budget? Or does it come out of another budget? I do try to be OS but we like a treat and this is it i know i'm fortunate to be able to do this so please don't shout at me, thanks
p.s. what about alcohol? or am i the only sociable drinker?
I don't include any meals eaten out from GC budget, as this comes from me or DH's meagre treat budget or the also meagre family treat budget. Generally it will be something costing £5-10 in one of the local cheap eateries and we spend it on that instead of any other family/personal treat, its maybe 1 or 2 times a month. We hardly ever go out to posher places, last night we did go for a curry in a nice local place, last time before that was a meal in April for Anniversary and my mum paid for that, and prior to that it was before DS was born. So basically, because it is a treat we do very rarely and pay from a seperate treat budget we don't count it. Takeaways, again rare, would come from the GC budget though. I agree that putting takeaways into GC would help you reduce them if you wanted to do that!
We don't drink so no alcohol budget for us lol

    Bakewell Tart without Almonds

I'm another who doesn't like almonds (or at least that almondy taste) but I'm sure I recall having an attempt at a sort of Bakewell Tart recipe many years ago.

From memory it consisted of a pastry case with raspberry jam spread on it and then the filling consisted of fresh breadcrumbs mixed with something else (maybe beaten egg and sugar - does that sound feasible to some of you baking goddesses?) to make a slightly 'cakey-type' filling. I'm convinced it was from my battered Mrs Beeton's Book that was my cooking bible at the time.

Sorry can't be more helpful - I only made it once as the kids weren't too keen although I quite liked it and so did ex-OH. Kids loved anything involving cherries or chocolate - and that was it!
